I also find it funny that these people are so morally correct! They "created" a hack which allows gamers to play ILLEGAL game copies and software otherwise unauthorized by Nintendo. And then threaten to file a complaint with Nintendo because Ripped is selling a guide on how to use it. I can here that complaint now: Nintendo: "How can we help you" Rat: "Um, yes. Mr. Ripped stole our product which allows your customers to hack YOUR system and play illegally downloaded games on it - AND he's charging for it..."
Well, i see your point. But the people that are mostly upset with this are the non pirate develepores (e.g Team Twiizers), they have worked very hard to make these programs for the community, and all for free. Then comes along this Ripped guy who thinks that he should make money for other people hard work. it is sad that on the site iteself you don't even spell twiizers right, if your going to scam people maybe do a little more reasearch. btw Waninkoko and wiigator created the backup loader (yes You learn something new everyday) Edit: Also Waninkoko created the wad manager. Also do you guys have any moral? pirates have more moral then you people.
You know what. I honestly believe that the value of this product is questionable to at least some users. That said, I think the REAL question here (since you really can't have a product eliminated because SOME people may not find value in it) is the legality of it. The ONLY possible issue I see (given that Ripped did in fact rewrite the user guides and not just plagerize them) is that he is hosting the files. Providing a link to the files instead, and stating above that link that it takes you to download files "not owned or licensed" by HomebreWare would surely eliminate that issue. I was just in my local bookstore this afternoon. On the shelf was the "Unofficial FireFox Users Guide." A user manual for a FREE program. You know what was in the first several pages of that book? Information on downloading and setting up the browser...
Backup games, piracy, or not, as far as I knew, homebrew was not allowed under the Users License for the Nintendo Wii console and Nintendo is against it. This may or may not make it "illegal."
taraff1, you may be right, but the fact remains that you people are taking advantage of people. As i said with my first comment, each and everyone of the brewii site should have at the top of each page "All we are selling is a PDF" because the site is very deceiving, and there are a lot of stupid people out there (yes i know this was your plan). If you do this, people will actually know what they are buying because the description of the product is very deceiving. And about the book that you saw, it is straight forwarded, opposite of these sites.
Octoroks, I do see your point, and while I may disagree on some of it, I respect the way you have POLITELY argued your point on the forum. I have spoken with Ripped on numerous occasions and he has assured me that by the end of the day a solution will be made to appease everyone. I will trust him on this and see what things look like tomorrow. Jim
Yes i heard you are going to make some changes, but not minor ones, oh no, the'll have to be big ones. Let me start off with the mistakes of homebrewinstaller.com. It says that homebrewinstaller will help unlock you wii. actually no, your guide tells you how to use the software of hard working developers what to do... so change that. "Do you want to play Hombrew games on your Nintendo WII? How about DVD`s? With Homebrewinstaller you can. This revolutionary new product will show you how to safely run the Homebrew application by safely unlocking your WII. Play absolutely every game from N64, SNES, and Sega Genesis with the built-in emulator. Play any DVD`s. And, better yet, play imported and region-coded games.": Well that isn't true, the apps that the developers do this, all homebrew installer is doing is selling a guide, so you would have to change that. "Homebrewinstaller is very safe and will not void your warranty" homebrewinstaller is a pdf...so change that. .You see the banner that says "What it will do..." change that to "what the guide will help you do...". And i havn't even started on the other sites. As you can see there has to be many changes to make it clear. Edit: also remove any traces of any homebrew apps from your server.
That is not how marketing is done. Simple. This is why every product sold through CB offers a 60 days satisfaction guarantee. You are deceived? Ask for a refund.
marketing? From my perspective this is not marketing. But if you people don't want to change your ways... thats is up to you. But right at the moment what you are doing is illegal, and intill you fix it you are at risk. You people are smart, i have to give you that, you take someones free product slap a tutorial around it and call it original, smarts but no morals. And if it sounds like i'm bashing you, well scamming isn't a very nice thing. No, i never bought this "product", mainly because i did it all for free.
I understand and respect you opinion and your point of view. But it wasn't really my point. When you go to GUCCI website, do they write in big letters: "THE PAIR OF JEANS WE ARE SELLING FOR $150 ACTUALLY COST US ONLY $4 TO MAKE AND SHIP TO USA" I can guarantee you won't see it... because that is not how marketing works. The same goes to guides. Just take ANY book form the line of "...For Dummies" - Do They write in big letters: "This INFO is Also Available for FREE but we Will Charge You For it!" whatever the book is about, you can find that info for free - but people prefer to pay money and save the time they would spend on research. Ripped is helping out people with his guide. I do not know all the details of how the guide was written but I am sure the guy would take all the necessary measures to make it unique, original and legit.
Dear Mr. Octoroks, It is wise that you chose a profession other than marketing, sir. And now for something completely different: Stop acting so bitter and wait for results that satisfy your concerns. People are diligently cowtowing to you and your demands as we speak, yet in the interim you have the nerve to espouse marketing values - to marketers ... You are indeed trying our patience, and I am sure this was not your goal.
Sk8rboy what do you now understand about this: Ripped in not selling the software he is using information on how to use the software. He is selling a free document he is selling his guide. Maybe some of the information was found from free documents but he is not selling these guides, he is selling the guide he wrote. He is not the only one that does this. As alex mention above a lot of the big named people selling book and guides like the "for dummies" are selling information that could be found on the internet for free. The prefer to spend some money so they don't have to waste there time researching the info. Also how the hell is it a scam considering he offers a 60 day money back guarantee?
He is selling pirated software from Nintendo (the WADs) and he literally copied and pasted it. Please download the guide your self from homebreware.com/ty_132627.html and check the Mii Channel Updater in the end. I would like to show you the guide he copied from Wiibrew. wiibrew.org/wiki/Mii_Channel_Updater The guides at Wiibrew are under the GFDL(GNU Free Document License) so he MUST release it free. If you download the software package it contains two WADs which are copyrighted by Nintendo
Again he is not selling the pirated software he is just letting people download it from his server instead of wasting other peoples server space for his own needs. And if think the legality in it is the fact that he hosting the programs him self isn't that what hackmii.com is doing also for example: http://hbc.hackmii.com/dist/twilight-hack-v0.1-beta1.zip Also I was not aware he had plagiarized copy in his guide. But this problem is being solved as he is getting his guide re-written so that his whole guide is word for word original. So there is nothing else you can complain about. Stop being bitter Ripped was just smarter than you, he is making money helping people.
Lo agiin peeps You need to sort your stuff out too. ( im just the friendly person who corrects all your mistakes ) "Usually to play Homebrew games on your Nintendo WII, you would be required to perform rather risky and complicated hardware & software modifications. Not with the Homebrewinstaller guide." Erm your guide also states you need to run the same mods, again this is a SOFTWARE mod!!! "Homebrewinstaller is very safe and will not void your warranty. The procedure is entirely non-intrusive as it is software-based. So, what are you waiting for? A whole new world of WII entertainment awaits..." Erm Mr Nintendo says it voids your warranty. "John - California, USA "Hi Guys, I was looking for something SAFE to unlock my WII with and i came across your site. I downloaded your product and followed your instructions, so easy! Now i`m happily playing my Gamecube games again, not to mention DVD`s! Thanks again." The wii can run original gamecube games out of the box, the software / guide will still not make it run backup gamecube games. Your "reviews / cutomer comments" are obviously fake and to be honist full of shit. Do you guys ever ever learn?
hackmii is teamtwiizers website fyi and wiibrew is aswell. Team Twiizers do NOT condone piracy and would NEVER host the WADs. They don't even believe in "backuping" games. Thats why they dont distribute and backuploader of anykind. WAD(the illegal form) or even a dol or elf. They are practically selling the software. If they want to mirror it allow it as a software link without having to purchase without the included WADs and get rid of the backuploader part or ask them to find it on there own. Thanks you for your patience, ^sk8rboy^
As far as I know it is not illegal to "practically sell" something or to help people find pirated software. And if it was illegal then you just broke the law: "http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=9992555&postcount=55"
I've seen many sites pop up. And most of them say that it comes with a bundle of homebrew software (which is illegal) e.g: wiiunlocker.com/. And Ripped, there are many sites popping up that are illegal and selling homebrew application, and i doubt you serve all of them, so this is going out of control. So really you started something that people won't let pass. Also there seem to be adds in google of these sites (i have adds disabled), just letting you know of what you caused. If i am pushing your patients well, maybe next time think before you decide to do something. Edit: heh that site uses paypal (not for long)
