What is the best way to get a forum going? I have just created the forum in my signature and all I seem to get posting is spammers. :(

If it is a niche forum you should either join other networks and start hustling members or advertise on other sites that pertain to your forum site. Spammers will find anything these days. It's such a waste of time to remove them.

Use a forum posting service to post to the forum to get it up and running and make it look active. You can find many people offering these service in the buy, sell, trade section of this forum.

Once yo have people posting you should then start to drive traffic to it and real members should start signing up and actively posting n your forum

forum posting on other forums. Put your link in your sig and find about 10 forums that you like. Everyday, post two or three times on each forum. After about a month or two, you should start seeing a lot more members.

ALso, you have to make sure there is always something new on your forums. People will stop coming back if all they see is the same thing as last time. It is just not worth it to see the same thing. To get a forum started, it either takes a lot of work for the owner or like other said, you can hire people like me or many others to do forum posting.

    Hope this helps

I suppose I would ask WHY you think people would come to your forum as its a mirror image of other google discussion forums, including digital point.

Also putting "New members joining all the time" in your signature then posting to say you have sod all members apart from spammers is probably not going to encourage people to join I would imagine?

Who are your potential members? People who use google and market online etc,

Where do they congregate? Forums like this.... ahh....

You see my point, there is no USP to your forum and its fighting against some of the biggest tech/marketing forums on the net - you are going to be stuck with breadcrums unless you find a niche. No amount of free competitions or domains will alter people's habits or their desire to surf to popular destinations.

I suggest you go back to the drawing board. Look at a niche part of your forum and grow it from that, you are starting to broad right now.

    I guess you are right.

But hey it is growing steadily.

Like you said, one cannot hope to compete with forums like this. 2nd on Google for Webmaster etc.

    I am enjoying it though.

I will look at a niche in the web forum market though.

    Thanks for the advice.

    Cheers

    Shane

Few days ago here i had opened a similar thread here asking how can we get things going for newly setup forum in terms of getting things going. Conclusions were

    - In begining hire some posters
    - Then few friends/family members who can post with dedication for next some time
    - After have some members things really start going on...
    - Forum can go dead anytime so good attention all the time required.

Ok man I have also joined your forum with username Khurram.

Wish you a best of luck.

    I actually agree with thefandango.

His post was very helpful and made me think for a minute. Now that was hard. :)

What I am going to do is create the niche that thefandango suggested. Good man, I knew I was here for a reason and not just to drum up forum members.

o here is what I am thinking.

    We start a forum called

    The GoogleSiteClubs Pet Project

Welcome to GoogleSiteClubs Google project. Here we will develop a Google web site from scratch documenting the entire process start to finish. We will show daily statistics of visitors and a Google revenue report. We will try different colors, and ad positions and document the increases or decreases in revenue.

We will also analyze different marketing approaches that we use in generating revenue.

That is just a rough draft based on my minute of thought. :)

    Will expand in time.

Hope you all follow this marketing experiment.

Thanks thefandango. You really opened my eyes.

Got any core members yet? Without core members you'll likely not get very far. Once you get a few good members Promote your forum with a Street Team

Starting this thread will certainly help. But posting on the bigger lists could help even more....

When posting in those forums remember that it's more then just posting with a sig link...

Directory submissions will help as well, at least that is what they say. Seemingly it's good bot fodder, but heh, it's certainly not a method of direct traffic.

    Yes we have core members.

I think they are doing a great job promoting the forum.

You should be active on your own forum. Try to start some new threads and answer some threads that are created by others. Lastly you should do your SEO daily. Nothing is easy when it comes to web mastering.
