There isn't a magic bullet solution really, however there are a few things you can do.

    1) Dont use You Tube, even its high quality mode isn't that good quality.

    2) Get a good quality source video. After all you cant make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

    3) Find the best quality conversion tool you can. With Flash this normally involves paying for it, since to get best quality you really need the ON2 VP6 codec and to my knowledge none of the free converters have this.

    4) Work out the best bitrate for your file. Unless you have a really advanced player (I dont know of any non-commerical ones that do this) you will only have one bit rate available, some companies have multiple bit rates available and will choose the best one for the end user.

This will be a trade off between quality, as higher bit rate will be higher quality, and download time, more bits bigger file. BBC iPlayer for example uses 500kbit.

Again think about the type of content you have, if its proper streaming (most arent) you will have to wait for the file to download enough before playing, if you choose too high a bitrate people may have long waits and loads of buffering.

    5) Fiddle. Most converters have various settings you can play with, have a play and see what works best for your videos.
