There is definately money to be made with brand new hand reg names but it's true that you're not gonna make anywhere near $100k on a new name. You can still reg a brand new name & make hundreds or even thousands, especially if you look for endusers for your names you sell.

Well, hopefully I can do a bit more research and see at what level these new regs are actually pulling in and over what sort of time frame.

You can make 15 million dollars on some made up word. I think you are wrong.

It is still possible to hand reg a great name that can be sold for thousands, if you know what you are doing. It is a lot of work though, easier to buy from frustrated domain name speculators.

There are always new opportunities arising as well such as new technologies and new TLD's so the pool will never be completely dry.

yes..you can always register some random name..maybe one day some end user might like it and approach you for it..however, there is never a guarantee now a days..

That's a bunch of BS. The guy who registered Toyota.me turned it over within a month for around $90,000 (that's a fact, google it).

Just like how domains from the late 1990s have sold for millions, domains today will sell for that much by the late 2010's.

That is something I disagree with completely! You are talking about registering a domain name and leaving it there to hope an angel comes and pays you $100,000 cash.

Domainers have a habit of being dreamers, but 99% of them NEVER take action. I registered 11 dot info domain names last night (about 4am to be exact) and I know after I develop them, my $11 investment will net me more than $10k easily per domain. Although not instantly, once the domain gains PR and overtakes the undeveloped dot com, it will be worth more to an end buyer. There are countless opportunities out there for domainers to register, but we are to lazy to take action and develop them with unique content.

    Anyway, I like your blog!

Also, keep one more thing in mind, domain names are worth as much as someone is willing to pay for them...which is why some really stupid domain names have sold for very high amounts.

Absolutely, this is the number one rule. As much as death and taxes are guaranteed to happen, you will not sell a domain name for more than your buyer is willing to pay for it. It all comes back to how much value that domain name adds to their business or dreams.
