These people have fallen into the trap put forth by so many so-called gurus that you can make a fortune overnight on the net. Long time running ad on tv is about making fortunes on the net. Odd thing is, every time I see that ad, same people, same everything, except that it is a different url to go to and sign up. Plus coming into this forum, like other forums, newbies see people posting how much they are making, or how much some one else is making, using adsense.
People have always been in search of ways to 'get rich quick'. These days many of the schemes are web-related so you're hearing more about them.
I've seen those commercials. I get the feeling they may be promoting a web-based version of a more traditional get rich quick scheme, such as MLM (pyramid schemes). I don't mind this as much as long as no one I know is trying to get me involved or sell me something. The get rich quickers here at DP seems to be taking a made-for-adsense approach, which bothers me, because it's the web as a whole that suffers with the influx of useless sites.
I think its not people who need to get rich its the people who need to scam... quickly... and big... in order not to get cought. Hense their business slogan.
I was invited over to some guy's house because he said he wanted to build a local team to make money on the internet. I knew I wouldn't be interested but I went anyway because I felt maybe I could help him out and give him a few pointers on SEO and site designing. Well it turned out it was a pyramid scheme (quixtar dot com) and they were charging $40 to sign up and talk about all these money you could be making. I was there for 2 hours and they didn't mention one strategy of how they plan on getting people to come to buy the stuff I would be selling if I sign up -however they said i would have to recruit 6 people a month and i would have to buy $250 worth of products from "myself" each month. I told them it wasn't worth it. I could invest all that time and money into one of my own sites and make even more than they were offering!
HA HA! I had a guy I went to college with calling me everyday trying to get me to go to those Quixtar 'meetings'. Morons!!
Because I'm broke! Seriously though, I do believe there is money to be made on the internet, its just having the "idea" that's going to make it big. Look at the kid with the pixel site, he made $1million! I think a unique idea will be the way to make some money!
I can not undertand this, since its so much better to build a solid ground for your business. Build something that can bring you money for the rest of your life. //Andreas
brian, There are those few cases of someone having a big idea and getting rich. But the odds of hitting that idea are so low, that you're better off building a fortune. And it is true, you can make a lot of money quick on the internet, but you need capital and knowledge, just like making a lot of money in just about everything else.
