£250k or £500 would be enought to live a nice quiet relaxing life im sure. Allot of people have much much less and they seem to do good

You can fairly easily generate 10% interest consistently on larger deposits. So theoretically, you can deposit $1m into a managed account (by a professional) and live off the interest/gains every year. $100k isn't rich, but it is a decent living considering you don't have to worry about a thing. Double the deposit up to $2m and you are now living right at the limit of "upper class" in the US. Choose a frugal region to live and you will be comfortable!

Yeah, I'd be happy with 2 mil... half to invest, and half for right now!

I would take that 1 billion and go for more. Aim to make it 5 billion. It's the challenge (not so much the money) that keeps me going.

Wow, one billion is a lot of money. Perhaps it is enough for me to go to settle to another country with that kind of money :D

With " large " number of variables involved in any financial planning changing violently coupled with ever increasing global and local uncertainities, one is not sure how much he/she needs for retirement....i guess continous upgradation in one's knowledge level and sincerity will prevail and will lead a dignified retired life :)

I will be aiming to retire with about £10 million to have a very comfortable retirement, although that depends at what age you retire...
