    Hi there,

I've got a question about anchor text. Let's say my main keyword is rain. If I get a backlink and the anchor text is rain drop, will that count if I want to rank good for just rain ? Or is it just for that phrase rain drop ?

    Thanks.

I m not getting the point behind getting backlink with rain drop as anchor text while the targeted term is rain. Whatever be the point... it doesn't worth to have such keyword as anchor text in a backlink. That would be a separate thing if the keyword rain drop relates to your website.

You'll rank for a number of terms, including the obvious ones like rain, drop and rain drop.

You'll also rank for related terms like wet weather, or whatever google thinks is linguistically related to your anchor text.

Let's say my site is RainDrop.com, but I want to rank for the keyword rain. I got an .edu natural backlink and they've put the link as Rain Drop. Now I am asking if that will make my site rank good for my targetted keyword - rain or it will just apply to ranking good for rain drop.

Certainly for both... as rain is present in both places, in your anchor text and as well as in domain name.

As the Domain itself having targeted keyterm (in the supposed website) i advice to concentrate on other keywords too while creating backlinks. Also rain is very broad keyword so the website's content is big player in this case.

Yes. "Rain Drop" will help you rank for "Rain". If you want to rank high for "Rain" then you should try to get a lot of links from different sites containing the word "Rain". It doesn't have to be the only word, but in your overall link profile that is the word that you want to show up most as a part of the anchor text. Scatter in a few links with only one word (Rain) too.

You can also find related words for the term..maybe precipitation.

Do a search in google with your keyword and the "~" tild in front and it will highlight in the returne results related keywords.

If you took it as an example, its fine. Otherwise I must say it is a very generic keyword and would take hell lot of time to rank....
