I've been trying to find some good content on optimizing your site for Foreign Search Engines (i.e. Google China, India . . . etc). I have successfully propelled my site to the top of Google (US) for several keywords, however these results are not carried to the other search engines. I understand that the language of the site may have something to do with it, but what else can be done to raise rankings on international search engines?
Well, for starters you can publish your site in the language the search engine uses, have the site hosted on a server in a country that reads the language it was published in, set your geographical location in Google's Webmasters' Central, and acquire incoming links from sites in those respective parts of the world.
Will having the site in multiple languages be considered duplicate content? I'm guessing not, but just want to make sure Also - Is there a way to set my location in Google, without affecting my current location? Perhaps, adding two locations? Also, what if I had a domain pointing to a particular page with a domain from that country? (i.e. MySite.cn, or Mysite.in) And if this is a good idea, what would be the best way to set this up?
no, it will not be considered as dup content cause you are re-writing the entire content in different language as dan said above, change within google webmaster central try to get hosting within that specific country, have a domain name with country extention will certainly help (site.co.uk or site.in for example) and get as much link as possible from sites withing that country. either from domains with your country extention or domians that are hosted within that country
As sultanofseo said, it won't be considered duplicate content due to being published in a different language. He also pretty much summed up what I was going to say, so I'll leave it at that.
I agree with my friends that it won't be considered duplicate content due to being published in a different language.
