Following the 'Muslim here to answer your questions' thread which was pretty interesting and informative, I thought I would start a Sikh version so if anyone has any questions about Sikhism, I will try my best to answer them.

    Thanks!

Do Sikhs cut their hairs ever in life or not?

No, Sikhs do not cut any hair on their body. We believe we should live within Gods Will and living as nature intended (without cutting our hair) is acceptance of that. Further to that, the Sikh Guru's instructed us not to cut our hair.

    Not all sikhs keep hair.

Follower of Sikhism ( a religion ), The word 'sikh' literally means 'student'.

That wrong, I dont keep hairs and i am a sikh ( and no one can take that away from me :) )

    Very simply...

Sikh literally means a 'learner' and a Sikh is someone who follows the path set out by the 10 Gurus and the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in order to achieve the goal of merging back with God.

Maybe I should be more precise and say that any practising Sikh / ALL baptised Sikhs will not cut their hair. When a Sikh is baptised they are required to keep 5 things (commonly known as the 5 K's) - one of these being uncut hair. Therefore Sikhs can normally be easily identified by their Turbans and uncut hair/beards.

You can be called a sehejdhari sikh or in common language mona sardar...
a baptised sikh needs to follow full rehat maryada appart from keeping 5 kakkrs;)

I'm not a Sikh but I just want to share a little story with you guys about the Barah Baj Gaye / 12 O' Clock thing not sure if foreigners know about it but Indians surely would be knowing about it. I used to tease a Sardar saying Barah Baj Gaye [although at that time I dint know what it actually mean] but after reading this story .. it changed my whole attitude towards Sikhs/Sardars

It is kinda long but is a good read trust me !

i don't but Britishers did when they were ruling the India.....

During those days British army recruited more than half a million sikhs in British armies to fight in world wars many of these soldiers settled in UK and now there are more than a million sikhs in UK....

sikhs have their own fighting techniques like chinese have kung fu

i best believe the story is incomplete,.... i heard that it was the incompitent british soldiers who floated the "12 o'clock joke" around after repeated loses to british soldiers and meterials.... best to try and demorlize the Sikh. ... coz nothing else was working!

i am not a Sikh, am a Hindu punjabi all i can say Sikhism is one of the cleanest religons i have seen, and their prasad is yum! (en: delicious! ... what is the right word for prasad )

Sikh groups have been accused of terrorist actions, such as the Air India flight bombing. Do these groups have any recognition or support in India nowadays? How are they being perceived by Sikhs?

Hi, don't take this wrong, just curious.. if you don't cut any of your body hair, how do you then wash it thoroughly so not to have germs growing / bacteria smell. ?
