We have gone crazy with work and have decided to accept a few more good writers...(limited)

Are you are an excellent writer and can answer yes to all of the following....

    Is English your mother language?
Do you understand the meaning of 'keyword-rich'?
Can you write about any subjects such a gambling, health, children etc?
Will your work stand up to our editors approval?
Can you work to a 48 hr turnaround?
Do you have a Paypal account?

If the answer is yes then we would love to hear from you. You will be expected to submit your work for approval before being accepted. We also have a $10 per month subscription to cover admin costs and advertising. Don’t let this put you off though as you can be sure we can keep you going with continuous work. We have at this moment around 500 articles on order waiting to be written. We do expect you to take multiple articles and not just one or two a week, so please only if you have the time to commit. You will be paid promptly and weekly for your work via Paypal

If interested please be certain about the questions I asked above as we do have to keep a standard and cannot compromise. If you are just writing for fun, please do not waste your time applying

Look forward to hearing from you

    Regards
    Emma

I don't mean to denounce your job posting, but employers are paying employees to work, not the other way around. As a legitimate company, I would expect you should be profiting enough from the work your writers complete for you so that you wouldn't have to charge for administrative costs.

BILZ, they try to justify the expense stating it covers administrative and other various costs. I completely agree with you though. Referencing my post above, an employee should NOT have to pay money for the privilege of working with a company. That's just not how it works in the real world.

Guys if it does not suit you then why bother venting? - I have had 15 replies that it does suit. I will say though at the moment that we can guarantee a minimum 10 articles a day to all of our writers which is a pretty good return - so it’s a writer’s choice. I will also say that most people that do a job actually do pay for the privilege by paying their own traveling expenses.

So please if this is not for you then please do not insult people’s intelligence and allow the individuals make up their own mind without your opinions.

Thank you to all that have applied. We now have a full quota. I have your contact details and will get in touch if we have further openings.

    Regards
    John

With all due respect John, as members of a community forum I feel we have the right to express our opinions regarding that which does not suit us. If people want to take you up on your offer, great! I am glad you are able to conduct business. However, as a professional writer I felt the need to state that there are plenty of paying writing opportunities for budding writers to earn respect and recognition in the field without having to pay for the privilege.

This post was not meant to be rude or harmful in any way. It was meant simply as a discussion point, and my two cents. I apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused you, but I do not retract my statements.

I agree DeniseJ.....and don't apologise. It is only when people like you speak up when the "scam" alarm bells start ringing, that keeps the rest of us safe.I would like to draw peoples' attention to two salient pieces of information.

    From the first post:
    From the website:
    Price list

So what do I make of all this. I make that a minimum of $4,750 (based on all @ $10 -5% discount) dollars that has been paid up front for articles if Wordsmith can be trusted on the number of orders placed.

"admin costs and advertising" sounds a little dubious to me.It does sound a lot like greed though. The clients will be paying you for their articles to be written and the writers will be paying you so they can write them.I think a site that can generate $4,750+ before it has even hired a workforce doesn't need to charge employees for advertising and admin costs.

If you want to advertise....take it out of your (no doubt hefty) slice of the $4,750+ you've got sitting in your account!!!!!

    Raise the alarm.....

Thank you, ideas_man for the support. I must admit, it upsets me when companies consider charging their employees to work for them standard business pratice. The bottom line? When McDonalds starts charging their employees to flip burgers, other companies can follow suit. Until then, writers work much too hard to spend their hard earned money on a job they could do elsewhere for free. Writers are writers to make a living, not to help their employees profit from their hard work.

You only find them online though :) In the real world, if you had to pay your employer to keep your job, you would laugh and walk out. Online, people fall for these things all the time. Maybe it's naivety -- maybe desperation, who knows.

What are people thinking when they look at an offer like this and think it is a good opportunity? People....strange creatures

Exactly! Good opportunities abound, opportunities you don't need to pay money for if you know where to look. I wish people would search for alternatives before throwing 10 dollars down the drain for administrative costs which a company can more than cover themselves.

Wordsmith, feel free to chip in and clarify the necessity to charge employees, especially with so much money sitting in your PayPal account. I am curious to know how you would justify it.

Why don't freelance writers setup their own article writing websites?Rather than working for other people, why not start your own.If I had writing skills, that's what I would do. There is no real reason why you would need to work for a site such as Wordsmith's.All they are doing is taking the orders and taking a cut of the money. Freelance writers could do that with their own sites.Or is it better to be part of a collection of many writers organised by other people? I don't know, just wondering :)

Well, ideas_man it's really a matter of personal preference. I work for several companies as part of an organized group (however, they don't charge me to work for them!) and I have had much success with these companies. Eventually, my plans are to start my own article writing business but for now this is what works for me. If you choose to work for a company that takes a cut of the profits, there's nothing necessarily wrong with that. You just need to make sure it's a reputable company that treat their employees fairly. I'm lucky enough to work with great companies and individuals that don't insult my intelligence by trying to nickel and dime me for any little thing.

Sure, my point was that I just can't see what they do that writers couldn't do themselves. But that's just me I guess, I will always prefer to do things myself rather than rely on others, especially if it means losing money in the process.

But as you said, it works for you which I think is the most important thing :)

Its not paying to keep your job, its paying for them to FIND you jobs. Every job agency in the world that will take your resume and give it to other people will charge you something.

Now if they are charging 10$ a month and taking a large commission from every article you write, then I agree it is probably not worth it. I'd be interested to hear what an average writer makes at this company, either per article or per month. Any ballpark number would do.

Remember that as a writer finding jobs is part of the time you work, and does cut down on how much you make a hour. If they find you enough jobs that pay well, it definatly is worth paying a measly 10$ for.

I think we all need more specifics.

Interesting point cochise, but Wordsmith is approaching writers because apparently they have a backlog of 500 articles. This isn't a job agency for writers. There is no promotion of individual writers, they just need people to fulfil the orders they have already been paid for.

If it were a job agency I could appreciate the cost of finding a person work, but in this instance it isn't the case.

Exactly. There's no system in place to promote individual writers. They aren't advertising themselves as a "job agency," which is an entirely separate issue.

Ok I have sort of sat back and taken this rubbish on the chin so perhaps I should address the points you have made in this ridiculous post.

First of all we already have 75 quality writers on board writing continuously for us. Most have been with us for over 12 months. The 500 articles I have requiring written is not quite true - it is 660 articles at present. Our writers have their own panel and can take any subject they want form the list we provide. We are the only company that pays regularly every Friday. I did state that our writers can earn a minimum of $100 week, in fact we had 8 writers last week that earned $450 each. We have just completed a 2000 article order for the webs largest travel site and are about to start a 1500 article contract for another major portal.

Now for the reason why we charge a nominal $10 monthly subscription fee - The simple answer is that it sorts out the serious writers from the not so serious writers. We have found that the writers that we now have are extremely professional and will work very hard.

So maybe now you will realize that your talk about $4000 or so being a large amount is way off beam when you consider the size of our operation and our clients.

I am getting pretty perplexed with people who troll the threads that do not concern them just to spit venom. If you are interested you ask me the question - if not why all this bla bla? To put it plain and simple I now have a full quota of writers and this will be the last time I will advertise in this forum. I have had so much more respect in other forums. Your rantings have not put other writers off from contacting me and I say good on them for finding out for themselves how much they will earn.

One last point that was made was you can get work anywhere without paying - Well I would like you to give me the address's of any site that offer continuous work every day and every week and get paid weekly? Now there's a challenge!

And lastly please do not use the term scam again unless you can substantiate it - In fact I would like you to give a written explanation of 'fact' that made you use this term?

Second thouts please don’t bother replying as I have had enough of this.

    Regards
    John

Well to be fair...I did ask a question and never got answered.

But again I don't think this is a scam. 10$ is NOT a lot of money for someone who writes articles on a regular basis (it is only about 20-30 minutes of writing for me) and I often give that much (in fact more than that) in DISCOUNTS just for getting large orders from clients. If he is giving a steady amount of work monthly then it is not the huge deal it has been made out to be. It would only really be a scam if he offered no work at all, which I do not believe would be the case.

If Wordsmith was paying well, something I might never know, then there is no reason not to believe that paying 10$ isn't worth it.

    Anyways no big deal anymore.
