Starting a Hosting Business

    Hi,

I am a keen and budding IT person and I really want to get a career through starting and running my own hosting company/business.

Now I would of course love it to be on a Dedicated Server, but they cost too much for me to afford right now,

So wanted to get peoples thoughts on if you think it is worth it to get established as a host through Reseller Accounts first, then move up to Dedicated when and if the hosting becomes any good??

    Thanks

    Practical thinking then its good.
But i doubt there is anyone will buy hosting from a reseller.
So i advise you to buy at least VPS to start with.
And you can get more client if you allow proxy hosting coz it in high demand

if you are a skilled it person you should have no problem easily designing websites for people and then offering them hosting for a discount. that way you will have a little bit of income to invest in a vps or dedi. you need to offer something that people cant get anywhere else.

    Thanks mentos

I already have a personal VPS, but it is only a small one which I would not use for this sort of thing as it only has small ammount of ram.

VPS are still out of my price range, as they still cost $30-$60 for a good one per month, but I think that it is a better option than going for a dedicated at this point in time. I will shop around and see if I can find a good deal.

    Thanks again :)

You can start from a reseller, move
your way to VPS, then to Dedicated.

A negative with starting on a reseller hosting package
is because many don't offer much space to work with.

this is a great idea to start, except if you just want to do hosting, you will need to have some kind of incentive to get people to come to your company.

There is no demand for proxy hosting, if today i will sell few packages with 50 GB bandwidth for 5 $ no one will buy them ( ok 1 person maybe )

I tried to sell packages for 1 $ first month but there is no demand, no requests at the moment for proxy hosting.

I did try the hosting bussiness but couldn't get any clients, I think the business is overcrowded!

    My opinion :

Isn't a get rich quick scheme, can takes years to become profitable. People don't trust you, you must fool them to buy from you ( personally i don't ).

Also advertising on DP is 99 % useless for a serious host because it's a paradise for spam offers.
