Well, if one does not know of limits, one need not worry about transgressions. What happens to religion if science allows us to live forever?
What if after we learn to live forever that we find out that this isnt what we wanted? We multiply like rabbits and eventually use up all the natural resources of the universe and end up in physical pain, hunger and suffering for all eternity? Do you think we would turn to god when that happens?, and maybe god gave us a physical limit on our physical lifespan because of his infinite wisdom and maybe, just maybe he wants us to learn a lesson from thsi life that we could only learn by being mortal in this plane of existence. If there is a slight chance that god does exist and truely cares for us, would we completely be able to understand how he works and why he is doing things for our good? If we do find out there is a limit on physical life, maybe god placed it for these reasons and what if the life of spiritual eternity is a perfection and joy of living we could never experience if we lived forever.
So then ask yourself this question while your at it.. What if you die and there is a judgement day and you do get punished for what you believed in. What IF.
LOL screw what ifs then! God can't seem to control anything and we now KNOW the causes behind most of the things we used to give God credit for..... He can't even control us, because we have "free will" right? So what are you hoping will happen if you pray to God? Nothing?
Unlike you, I understand the power of prayer and billions do. God's abilities are beyond the human intellect.
Goerge i didnt know you were gos spokesperson?, and ur assuming that god cant control us. Maybe god loves us enough to let us make our own choices because that is the best way for us to grow from within. By the way do you also believe that order arises from chaos? m5love exactly what i was trying to say. Direct and to the point
Well, for the 'order from chaos' thing, let me set you strait, as I have a good deal of scientific knowledge (Although I am not a professional): The universe started out as a singularity. Then for a reason we have yet to figure out (BUT WE WILL! ), it exploded. The universe was initially very uniform, if very hot. in fact, the distribution of mass was very, very equal. To quote steven hawking from his book for the layman, "A brief history of time", In other words, the universe was extremely orderly at the beginning of the universe- everything was totally uniform. I would assume that quantum effects caused the slight anomalies that became galaxies. Many scattered points are more disorderly than one coherent, uniform substance, wouldn't you say? Thus it is not "order from chaos", as you seem to claim, but chaos from order- In other words, Entropy working.
What seems like chaos now will most likely be explain later as it has always been but could u explain that last part in more detail for the layman of us here? As far as why that singularity exploded your right, we will eventually find out. Why? Because there is a reason for it. An order.
An order unrecognized is perceived as chaos. Of course Chaos as it was used in Greek myth meant something a bit different than it is used today. Thus, "Order from Chaos" can mean something slightly different than "order from chaos". Order can be viewed as the manifest observable universe and Chaos could be understood as the unmanifest, unobservable universe. Both are part of the universe and the only difference then between Order and Chaos is perspective.
what is praying? asking about things that we want is just one of the benefits of praying the most important role of regular praying is to establish steady contact with God So even if we're happy and satisfied, we should keep on praying... there's nothing useless about praying
Ok let me reword it. Order from randomness is an impossibility. It has been proventime and time again that everything in this universe has a law or some kind of order to it and the more we grow in knowledge scientifically the more we understand that this universe couldnt have happened by random chance. I didnt have to reword it because most of you understood what I originally meant by chaos . Bali sunset, great post also my friend
That's it??? That's your answer? God is all magical and whimsical and we dare not question it because we cannot comprehend? What is this the frickin wizard of OZ? Did you just basically tell me to pay no attention to the man behind the curtain dude? Unreal...... Attitudes like that are why countless morons believed the earth was flat even after it was proven otherwise. And that God caused hurricanes. The irony here is that if you heard a person who is involved in a cult spewing the same nonsense you'd laugh at him/her. But because it's coming from the biggest cult on earth.... it's OK How about this.... Let's reverse roles...... how about Science is beyond YOUR ability to comprehend and you just need God to help you grasp it? Keeping steady contact with God for what exactly? If not for your benefit while here on earth for your invisible immortal soul?
George, you see when a person does not question with an open mind, comes with pre-conceived notions, that's the kind of replies that person will get. I am sure there is a specific answer for your specific question, I come to believe, you're looking in the wrong places.
And that is where we begin to go in circles. Nice try but sorry, I think you gave that kind of answer because you can't answer my questions. My questions are always open ended and specific. So they are EASILY answered if you take the time and have the moral courage to address them directly. For example my question was: You could have easily addressed any one of the points I made in that segment with a direct argument to the contrary. Instead you gave me some nonsensical babble about how you understand the "power of prayer" (which is EXACTLY what my question addressed, what is the power of prayer if God is powerless?) and then went on to tell me that his power is beyond human intellect.... To which I would most certainly agree. If God does exist his power is obviously beyond our ability to comprehend. But you see that's also a cop out.... A way of psychologically rationalizing your inability to see any real evidence of God's power. Cult leaders prey on people who are willing to self rationalize even when it doesn't make sense. Which is why I accurately compared religion to a cult. In your own bible it talks of miracles and awesome displays of God's power. So here's a ANOTHER direct question for you.... where is the explanation for why God stopped displaying his power? (hint: It's because those stories were made up or based in actual happenings but vastly exaggerated (to use a polite term). And now that we have ways of proving they exist to the world, they vanished... just like equally silly stories of werewolves, vampires etc.)
Well then that's too bad eh? I never received a post from you for my reply to yours on page 1? I can happily answer your questions but a debate only happens when both parties understand each other's topics. Unfortunately both of us don't understand each other very well.
I don't know. I'm asking you why you think he is here... A vastly more direct and relevant question considering the context of this discussion don't you think? And that is why it is often so easy for religion to prey on the uninformed. Did you just say that evolution is a theory and you were actually serious?? Here's an example: Neanderthal Man - Completely different bone structure but genetically the same as us. It evolved into what we are today. The bible and Quran don't mention them because frankly the primitive people (yep just plain old people Not God) who wrote those books had no idea about them. But today.... we have physical proof. You can touch it. The bible and the Quran would have you think God created us just as we are and we were able to speak and had the brain capacity we have today. Fossils and cave drawings PROVE otherwise. So you see there are what religious scripture says and there's what is PROVEN to be fact and often completely contradicts scripture. 2 very different things. It's called making a poitn with solid irrefutable evidence. You obviously have no retort to that so you move on and try to broaden it to an "it's more than that" discussion? How about discussing that point? Oh that's right... we already KNOW that idea is nonsense.... yet the Bible and the Quran both speak of God making things happen involving atmospheric influence. That's all I'm saying. I have no problem with you making statements like that and stating your opinion. That's what I'm here to see. But at the same time this is a debate and making statements like that and not saying anything to back up the reasoning behind it other than that you said so.... Well that's just intellectually dishonest. I already know you believe these things. I'm (OBVIOUSLY) asking you why.
