I just opened a Twitter account and am still trying to figure out how to get a following. My understanding is that you need to be posting about 5 times a day for this to be an effective marketing tool. We'll see...

if you just open up a twitter.com account that means you're still at the learning curb if you don't have a WordPress blog or your own dedicated Web server meaning word press blog post etc.

then your chances of climbing up and twitter are probably rare non-unless you know how to social bookmark using the Firefox browser.......... once you get those things together then you learn to connect your blog to twitter.com:eek:

If you're a member of a social portal like Hubpages or Squidoo (or even here at Digitalpoint), you can definitely find Twitter friends pretty easily! I love Twitter, it's like a fast & simple blog for people with attention deficit disorder :D

I agree 100% Twitter.com is a very good social portal and people are consistently trying to make friends or join your application as long as you're a decent blogger and blog about niche products and services that help the Internet

.As far as :eek:attention deficient disorder or ADHD:eek: I'm not sure if that has anything to do with twitter.com although I do see your point Twitter is short span so patients is a must:eek:

I just don't "get" twitter. I'd sooner read a blog rss feed... with Twitter there's too much cr*p IMHO.

    Well,

Twitter is an excellent way to keep people up-to-date with what you are up to, and what you are doing between your emails and blog posts. Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users' updates which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.

Me either, sometimes I feel very 1985 as twitter completely escapes me, I fail to see the point in it.

I disagree. I generally post 1 or 2 per day, very rarely as many as 4, but not every day either. Similar with a lot of the names I respect on twitter.
As with blogging, if you keep plugging away you gradually get the increased attention. I've been using it regularly for only a couple months now and although it was slow to nonexistent at the start, just about every day now I get a few new followers - and the curve is increasing. Like anything, if you keep adding value they'll keep coming back.

Check out twitip.com for some great posts on how it can be used, tweaked and built up.

I have been testing twitter for a while, but I still have trouble finding the right way to use it.

I have been looking at how "famous" bloggers like Yaro Starak and Darren Rowse are using it, but I still don't get it :)

Sometimes they post stuff like where they are off to on their vacation, sometimes they send tips, and sometimes just really boring stuff. It seems that twitter might be all about keeping in touch.

Do you have a few tips (straight to the point) regarding how to use twitter the right way? And of course, I am talking about marketing, how to use twitter to drive traffic.

    Some interesting posts.

I run an ecommerce sire selling fashion items.

I use bookmarking, blogs and web 2.0 sites mainly to create good backlinks

I am wondering how I could use something like twitter more creatively!

I have my own blog and so plan on looking at the wordpress twitter plug in.

    Any other suggestions for me?

    Thanks

There's a few of them that do it, but I like using Twitter tools - it lets you tick a box if you want it posted to twitter, but you can leave it unticked if you don't. If you're revising, or doing a post that you don't want to push through, you've got that option of not sending it. Also means if you make 3 changes after you've posted, when you notice something isn't quite right, your twitter account doesn't show 3 posts by the same name...
