If I buy an expired domain from name.com that only has the home page indexed and then re-direct it to a brand new site with a brand new domain will this new site get indexed and skip the sandbox? Also does it matter if the expiring domain has no keywords related to the new site's niche?
also is it a good idea to make a subdomain on my existing unrelated site, make the new website then re-direct it from the subdomain to a new domain when it's indexed?
Indexing has nothing to do with the sandbox. You need to build relevant backlinks. Without backlinks, you aren't going to rank for much of anything. Who cares if you are indexed if you aren't getting any traffic. Ranking a site takes time - highly competitive keywords can take a year or more. I would not suggest buying an expired domain just to get indexed. If you have good backlinks and still aren't getting indexed, you may have other problems (duplicate content, or worse, did something to violate google's webmaster guidelines).
i agree with mjewel, expired domains are good as long as they are relevent to your neche (sorry cannot spell it today), e.g if your neche was web master forums an expired webmaster forums domain would be good to develope. like mjewel said, if you are buying an irellivent domain just to get indexed thats pritty pointless and a waste of the registration fee/purchasing fee.
Well I kinda thought this. All sites I've ever made have been built straight from a new domain, but I'm getting it aff marketing and there's all this talk about sandbox and ranking landing pages etc.
You'll have a much harder time getting indexed with an affiliate page that offers no unique content. It's not that google doesn't know about the page, they just don't want it in their index. The sandbox is an aging filter on backlinks. With new domains, they haven't "proven" themselves so your backlinks won't be factored in when calculating SERPS for certain competitive keywords. It has nothing to do with being indexed, backlinks will still show, PR will still pass, it's just that the backlinks won't give you a boost in rankings for a period of time. It can be 3-6 months to over a year depending on the keyword. The sandbox does not apply to less competitive keywords or long tail searches.
An aged domain can be an advantage if it is on topic and also has aged backlinks. If it's just been parked for 5 years that won't make much of a difference. Some aged domains can also work against you eg. if they were previously used for spam.
From my experience, its much harder to develop an expired domain than a newly registered. Its even hard to get index but if your good in backlink building then it shoud not be too much problem.Just a small delay.
Can you write someting more about this, why you find expired domain harder to develop than new one. I haven't heard for this experience before.
I can't say much or write that well but I can visualize it like this. A newly reg domain name is like a clean cloth and its easier to start to build a site on it and getting index easily and going up the serps. But with dropped domains its a bit difficult to try and change the previous site to your current new site on the same domain. Its because there is a history and index in SE about your domain's previous site. Its like you need to get the house down and rebuild it again. However the good thing is that a domain with a previous history tends to rank well on serp after you have manage to established your current site. Thats from my point of view everytime I make a new site depending on a fresh reg domain or a dropped or 2nd hand domains Cheers Admin PR Checker & Fast SERP Checker
