Page rank has nothing to do with content, it comes from other sites that link to it.

I diagree with that . I believe there are some other factors besides backlinks and most important one is content.

You are free to be wrong. Content has absolutely nothing to do with page rank (although the better the content, the more likely a site is to link to it).

You can have the greatest site ever built but if there are no links, the PR will ALWAYS be zero. On the other hand, you can have duplicate content and get any PR you want as long as enough sites link to it. It's a fact.

I knew that originally PR was just from links so I thought it would be interesting to see if was still the case. It would be nice to think that content counted, though I thought it still didn't. So I searched in google for

    site:http://wikipedia.org 'article is a stub'

Pages such as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Comp-sci-stub PR4 suggest that content is not important, just links - in this case presumably all links from within the same site or scraper sites.

The real PR might be different from the toolbar PR of course.

well, it just simple. the site has a higher pr linked to it (probably pr5 or pr6).

anyway, pr has nothing to do with the site traffic or the content. it just the links!

PR is not important now. We should try to increase the traffic on our website. PR is directly link to link exchange and from my experience, if you do link exchange with unrelevant websites, your website will get page rank.

Links to your site are very important but is the site "quality"? Is the page the link on a "nofollow" page, or a PR 0 page, etc.

It's not what the website's PR is, it is what the PR is of the page the link is placed on.

Are you sure it wasn't a faked page rank? I also saw a PR7 that was created in Oct2008 and had no backlinks.

Did you try a backlink search using yahoo? Google never shows all the backlinks. Regardless, it's not the number of backlinks, it's the strength of the link. A single PR6 link can make a page a PR5 if it was the only link on the page. Approximately 85% of a pages PR passes - divided between the number of links on the page. A page with 1 link passes 10X the PR as a page with 10 links.
