you can use the static page for your home page instead of the regular one.

I would suggest you get a more colorful header. You can create a new Front Page through wordpress and then have your recipes as a secondary page.

You can get a Page Template modified to fit your homepage as a static page, and add a widget on the sidebar with the recent posts, a page template can be modified as you want, and its very easy to activate/desactivate in your blog settings.

i would suggest google for WP templates as a first step. as a second step, you need to add more quality content. i use WP CC (Caffeinated Content) plugin for content...it works perfect. you can Google it for reviews.

I agree, there are far too many ads.

Other points are that there is no logo and the header isn't related to recipes.

There is one cool WP theme that is set up like a modular CMS. It is not free, but once you have it you can modify it very easy without touching any code!

It comes loaded with all the bell & whistles like adsense ready, gallery, magazine etc.

You can change sidebar locations, bg colors, text box colors, post templates and much more.

It comes with a default magazine style layout.

It is a very flexible modular WP template system

In short out of this template system you can create an unlimited amount of professional looking WP templates complete with your own footer links to spread around.

I just got it 2 days ago and Iam messing arond with it on my demo server.

But trust me! It is good. I normally prefer Joomla but this one made me give WP a second look

It Think every blog platform provides the facility to choose and edit templates. So you can edit the template according to your need. But they use CSS for designing template so you must have knowledge of it.
