Can I use the Creative Commons Licence?

I am just wondering, if I am going to promote the courses at a University, can I use images with the Creative Commons licence?

Or is a university like any other business/corporation when it comes to this licence?

    I'll give you an example.

Can I use Flickr to find some creative commons images and use them for free at the website of the university?

    What license exactly?

I think You need to read first CC FAQ. http://wiki.creativecommons.org/FAQ

But short answer - Yes - you can use these pictures, when you are not selling them or publishing them so, that You are getting direct money (only when it is protected with NonCommercial license). So using them in usual website is fine.

    Thanks!

I am not sure which licence, at the moment, I am thinking about using Flickr to find some pictures. And they have an option to search for CC images, I am thinking about using that one.

I guess that it all comes down to the meaning of noncommerical.

A university doesn't exactly earn money, but if a student enrolls, the university will receive money from this student. That's why I am having a this discussion, I am not thinking of a public university as commercial, but is it noncommercial? :)

If you're using the picture to promote your university course.
Then it fall into commercial used.
You should pay for some fee to the picture owner
