Maybe it's quite a good idea...

I don't know how well used it will become. It people like a website that much then they will bookmark it.

Have you noticed the other feature where you can comment on a website?

Dont forget not everyone using Google will have this feature. You need to have a Google account and be logged in to use this feature. I should imagine there are still a very large amount of people that do not have a Google account and hence know nothing about this.

I cant see a lot of point in it myself. If I like a site I put it in my Bookmarks/Favourites of the web browser.

    Strange-

Now it is the next morning. I still see the promote/remove but the changes I make yesterday have reverted back to the regular search results.

Yes for now it appears it for personal settings. But this probably is just a test sandbox their doing now to gather data before hand to examine user behavior, then they'll implement it as a real "Digg voting" like feature on Google probably in the coming years in my opinion becuase the internet is defiantly become big, too big to organized robotically. You can see this know as the time goes on the search results are slowly deteriorating with crap sites. Its going to need to lots of human intervention in the future to organize properly.

You are talking about the new revolution of the internet. I dont know... I dont think its that easy. It would cost so much money and the results are unknown.

Its as clear as it gets. If you login (create a new one if you dont have to) to your Google webmaster tools you will see what we are talking about.

Does anyone know how can we use this towards our benefit to promote our websites ?

What happens if the opposing network of friends from some forum all demote a site that has good content?

The Google blog said it does not affect the search of others, but then reading farther, it seems to imply that it can affect searches indirectly.

I'm sure I saw a note somewhere that said other users can see your comments/votes on each site etc.

I think we have to have faith that the G engineers have taken such obvious manipulations into consideration.

It is very possible. I know google store user search habit in their database (identify by cookies) for a long time, as long as 6+ months .

SearchWiki is the new feature by Google. It is not yet available to all people. However, it doesn't sound end to any SEO. SEO will stand for years to come.

Also, don't worry. your changes to your own sites will not affect other people's search results. If it wasn't so, there would be full of MFA sites on all search results by now.

So all they are doing is helping people be more customized with their websites ? Ok, I see the point, but that will be very bad for future websites. Ok, so i like a website about fishing and i promote one fishing website so whatever i am looking i will see "that" site first. BUT 6 months later some new very good website comes out that i would be interested in BUT all i am seeing is that site (sites) that i have promoted 6 months ago.

    See my point ??????????????????

I don't think people use google that way, usually they just use google to find things on words and content. I don't think they will use google like a bookmarking site

But this is how it works - you bookmark/promote a site and next time you search a keyword related to that site, that site will pup up first.
