Q about domain names

Sorry about the title, couldn't think of a short enough title that would explain what my question is about. Anyways, my question is, which one of these is more powerful, and by how much?

    www.mykeyword.com
    www.xyz.com/mykeyword

The reason I ask is because I have found a niche, none of the top 10 sites have the niche in the domain name, but several have it in one form or another after the domain name. Would I have a strong case to be ahead of them if my keyword was in the domain name?

importance of keyword in the domain name is favored highly. However, there are other seo things that have to be done to utilize the good domain name successfully.

Best example I can give you is for a recent domain I bought BestMedicalDictionary.com
    http://www.google.com/search?q=best...avclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1B2GGFB_enUS264&aq=t

The only SEO I did with it for now, is title, metas, H1 tag and anchor link with actual keywords. The anchor link is EXTREMELY important to utilizing the good domain name. If you don't do this, then you might as well pick www.jhejabsfhskjghjasgtckjfjhuwgherufwcwkjebnfwkjergfwegmfzijqw.com

I don't promote the site. I have never submitted it or linked it from any site. I will do all that after I develop it. For now, at least it serves as an example of importance of the right domain name with basic seo.

Thanks greenbaret, so if I have my keyword in the domain name and also in the Title, then I should have a good chance of getting a good ranking in google? Hope so!

Quick English lesson. "then" should be "than". "Than" is used when comparing something. :)
