I just noticed that I have been getting traffic from Wikipedia & I have no idea why! Is there a way to search it to determine what is driving the traffic to my site? I thought Wiki was an human-edited encyclopedia, so I don't understand this at all!
if someone found your site provide good information, the reference you site. You can search for your main keyword in wiki
Try searching for this in Yahoo... linkdomain:yourdomain.com site:en.wikipedia.org That should show you a list of all pages on Wikipedia which link to your site. If you're just noticing the links (traffic) appearing now though, it may take a few weeks before showing up in Yahoo. Here's another example, let's say you wanted to see a list of all pages on Wikipedia which link to the MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network). In that case you could simply type this... linkdomain:msdn.microsoft.com site:en.wikipedia.org
I tried this: But it didn't pull up anything for me. Maybe it was some sort of a fluke, because I haven't received any more hits from Wiki.
The only way you can get traffic from wikipedia is if somebody has added your link to their page. Somebody could be spoofing the referrer id as wikipedia I suppose but its unlikely.
People add lots of links in Wikipedia, often without good reason. Sometimes within minutes, or at least in a couple of days another person who monitors the article will come along and remove them. So you might have got some hits for a short while. There is no spider.
at times such things happens with me too as at times it displays that i got trafic from GOOGLE.co.uk (home page) and thats something make me laugh and wonder.... but till the time i am getting visitors, i am happy as i have adsense and other mode of revenue published on my site... so i dont thing there has to be something to fear about till the time you are not involved into some BH technique....
I notice this a lot, when I appear to be getting hits from the home page of a huge site like Wikipedia, Google, Yahoo or whatever. It's just someone who wants to surf anonymously, and has put in the fake referrer of some site they like. It's easy enough to do. It's not usually on a large enough scale to be ref. spam, so I assume it's harmless.
