Hi, I'm running Adsense on a few websites and am getting eCPM in the range 2 to 3 $ (after optimizing the keywords and placement) Does Yahoo Publisher network perform better than that ? Any experiences ?
Well... I havent see too many comparisons. May be because YPN is new. probably, you can test it out and let us know.
Good idea, however I'm not sure it's easy to go back to Adsense if YPN is really worse or something..
I switched to YPN for 2 days and my eCPM was lower than Adsense. I made less money using the same content. And the report update times were terrible. They were 4 hours behind and only seemed to update every 3 hours. YPN sux.
Might suck for you but not for others. Since January 1, I have avg'd low to mid $xxx CPM. If AdSense works for you then use it. YPN works much better for certain sites/niches.
There has been great debate about this, but if you would like to hear my opinion you would have to pay me $100,000! Jokes aside. Google has better eCPM rate and YPN has better PPC rates. If you would like to make more money, then go with yahoo.
Speaking in generalizations, Webviz is right. Google's ad pool is greater, and therefore shows more relevant ads. Consequently, CTR is usually higher in Google. As for PPC rates, he's also right, in that YPN (as of right now) is paying a lot higher than Google does. So one thinks they have to give up on to have the other, right? There are a few exceptions, as I have found out. So here's my challenge to you all. Find the right niche, where YPN ads are relevant and you will have the best of both worlds. High CTR, and high PPC. Thus, high CPM. Webviz, I see you removed AdSense on your site while showing YPN. Good move.
One of my friends / fellow webmasters recently switched to YPN. He says his average number of clicks had decreased but the amount he is payed per click has increased. Overal it is less than what he was making from Google. But they have been steadily increasing so he has stuck with them.. I think it may have been because people were used to seeing google ads (he runs a forum).
I've run a number of tests on both...and now primarily use YPN with geotargetting so the non US traffic gets adsense. YPN does in fact show a lower eCPM, but for some reason I get about 3 times more impressions while using YPN (which would negitively effect eCPM anyways), but at the end of the day the amount I earn per site is almost always greater with YPN. The only site I still run only google ads on is my blog, which I haven't bothered to change to YPN at all..
YPN shows ad unit impressions, Google shows per page views, so if you have 3 ad units on a page YPN will show 3x as many impressions as Google for the same layout, and hence 1/3 the CTR and eCPM even if you get the exact same # of clicks and payout.
I think Yahoo pays better than Google.. In Reporting Yahoo sucks.. but in Paying, Google sucks!! my 2 cents!
I've only tried YPN out on a couple of sites. On a dating site, CTR is amazingly bad. On a sports site it's worse than Google but the money ends up being about the same.
I guess I'll give my two cents on this issue ... I run a lot of arcade websites and have found that the CPM is about 3-4 times higher than AdSense on the same sites prior to adding YPN. On my text messaging website, its about 6-8 times higher than AdSense. HOWEVER ... I run a Law Help related website in which case I'm getting ZERO CLICKS from YPN, however when it was using AdSense, I was getting about 2-3 clicks a day earning around $3-$5 day. So long story short, it just all depends on the content. And the only way to find out is test, test and re-test.
I had terrible luck with YPN. Their keyword targetting was so poor. I kept receiving ads about companies selling logs (canadian timber logs, wood logs, etc...) simply because I had the word "Log in" twice in my page. So I switch back to Google ads which were much more targeted for my website.
My ecpm for yahoo is great, I prefer it much more than google...yahoo is continually building its ad network, I think in the long run it will far exceed google on its publisher benefits.
You are all right that say that CTR is lower but CPM is Higher. I have noticed this on all my yahoo sites. One large site I was running adsense on was doing well but I figured I would try with Yahoo, the clicks went down 75% because the ads were not relevant. I left it up for a month, then I switched back to Google. I have had no problem with Google allowing me to leave and come back either.
