What are the pros and cons of a flash intro?

Thought about getting a flash intro, but now sorta having second thoughts?
Will it attract people or frustrate them that they get an intro first?
Does it hurt SEO at all with it being the first thing that happens?

    what do you guys think?

It does damage SEO, and like all intro pages, will probably frustrate the visitor as well. :) I wouldn't personally bother. What niche is the site?

Don't do it. Flash intros are awful, irritating, and a waste of time for the viewer.

The niche is health supplement site. Do you guys like anything flash going on in the site? I sorta figured about the intro. Everytime you go to the site you wait for the intro to get through!

Instead of a flash intro, how about a video somewhere on the landing page?

There are no pros of a flash intro. Just make the presentation part of the page with your menu and important information next to it, even if it's a completely Flash website. Intros are extremely irritiating for the visitor and will likely cause you to lose money instead of make more.

    Looks attractive to new comers

net savvy people hate it when it comes to flash as it wastes a lot of time

There are only cons to flash intros. They're extremely annoying, and most if not all of your visitors won't put up with them, and will leave your site without even clicking "Skip intro".

The only legitimate time to have a flash intro is if you are a flash developer advertising your services LOL. Best niches for flash (imho) are ones that involve making an artistic or visual statement - basically anything that doesn't involve direct sales.

So, looking at your niche above, I can't see any practical reason why you would use flash.

I find flash intros very off putting not only do you have to wait until it gets through its process of loading up you then find the actual content if its an intro not the real deals tells you just as little. By the time you get to the end of it you are ready to leave before you even learn about the product.

Flash shoudl only be used to emphasise the product after your customers have a chance to learn about it for themselves the intro to me shoudl be text to draw them in not sit and wait getting board before they even look at your content

Flash intros are something to put on promotional sites, like we're starting this new product and we want you to see how it looks and feels. Those sites are supposed to be visited just once.

Thus, once you expect people to come back to the site - avoid flash intros at all means.

    I disagree

None of the people I know like them - people just don't like inconvenient stuff, especially if it's all flash and noisy.

I don't like flash intros. Whenever I see one, I just leave the site.

I think it definitely depends on the type of site and the product. If your product relies heavily on branding or is a creative type product site then most of your site will most likely be in flash.

But if you're more about natural search traffic then I would use minimal flash although they are coming along nicely with ways to optimize flash movies.

Flash intro does no good to SEO, as well as to the visitors.
I always click the "skip intro" button to get rid of it, if there is one, otherwise... Ctrl-W :(

I totally disagree with most of the comments on here. Flash intro's are very cool as long as they are not too long and if they are too long they should have a skip intro button. Saying a flash intro is no good is like saying a flash logo or header is no good. I love flash intro's as long as they are good and not too long. I get tons on compliments on my intro.

That is why there should be a skip button, it is no different than having a fast forward button on your remote. When you are watching a movie just hit fast forward instead of saying" i'm not going to watch anymore movies ever again because it has the intro logo", just press you thumb down and skip it...WOW so much hard work to click LOL:eek:

well it's bad as per the seo so i would never prefer to add the flash intro in starting, and the user also can't for a long now a days, but you could add the flash in header, that will looks good and you could present your all thing in this that you wanted to show in intro...

actually it is okay if you have a multi billion dollar company and don't really worry about the visitor..your product is still people wanna buy..just take look at Nike,Adidas and many more..they have a multi billion dollar profit from their sales

So why this is related?Flash intro usually just an attraction to make the visitors feels really exciting when viewing or browsing your page.But..the bad news is,do you really think it's really fast loading compare with other site that don't use the flash intro?Think it twice..

for example, you want to buy or read about one of really useful article or maybe you are interested of somebody product..you visit the page..and wait the page load...wait,wait, and wait...do you have that time? For me I will totally leaved the site immediately and won't come anymore..not every visitors have a full speed internet connection and not every visitors have a powerful computers that support a flash element...

    that's my opinion..

    thanks:)
