I'm sorry for your loss, I do hope you get your money back.

However before blaming a company such as Pay Pal for others reading, isn't that sort of like taking $5,000 out of your bank handing it over to someone, they then ripping you off and you blaming your bank? Paypal for the most part is pretty damn good about fraud, a few occassions they have pissed me off as well but sending over $5k to a foreign untrusted individual is just asking for trouble, that is not PayPals fault.

I hope they can stop the payment for you, I suggest reading their terms and their protection policies. I know you do lose protection when dealing with someone outside of the US, non confirmed, etc, etc.

Hey. I had an issue with a scammer a few months back. He got me for 300$.
Not as bad as your 5k, but what I did was submit any type of evidence to paypal. That includes forum conversations, pms, anything you have that relates to the transaction. Every little bit of evidence helps. Just paste any conversations that you had with this person to paypal. I won my claim in a matter of 6 or 7 days. I was surprised knowing that paypal doesnt usually side with the buyer for a "service purchase" dispute. Hope this helps. ;)

Sorry, but surely it wasn't PayPal who scammed you but the individual you did business with. People are only too quick to blame PayPal in these matters.

Business lesson - don't use PayPal for such a large amount you seriously are just asking for trouble. I trust no one - sorry.

I think it's pretty obvious it wasn't PayPal who did the scamming.

Tell us what happened, and details on the guy who did it. I'm sure there is away to bonk him whereever he is. ;) I know some people in low places... :p

I'd be pissed, but in my honest opinion it was stupid to use PayPal for such a large amount. You should've really used an escrow service.

Am i the only one who wouldnn't even consider to buy from people in countries like that? Its like buying things from Romania, no way would it even cross my mind unless they are operating cash on delivery.

I had someone get into my account and try to transfer $1200. Paypal automatically put that payment on hold and froze my account.

I filed a claim and they said it would take 30 days, but it only took 5 days to get the money back and my account reactivated.

Hopefully yours wont take that long either. I do feel your pain though.

emil2k did you pay with available cash or with a credit card? That 'could' make a difference as you could take it up with your credit card company.

If I were you I'd also get all facts together, every term on pay pals site possible and try to call their customer service department. I have had my wars with Pay Pal over the years, and have found many times one decision from their automated department is not necessarily the end game, you need to get in contact with someone who will actually listen.

There might be no chance, however my 2 cents is to not give up just yet, try to get ahold of a live person and have all your facts together.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Hate to break this to you, but Paypal really sucks in handelling these kind off cases. Normally, they take the money from the scammer and never give it to the buyer.

Happend to me once. I hope, you get back your money.

I talked to a live PayPal manager today, the bitch was no help at all after 15 minutes on hold she just pretty much tells me that the PayPal policy is if it is something they can not touch, they can not do anything, they wouldn't even freeze his account, and it was a site...

Well, I never touched a single dime of the money I either received or paid with PayPal does it mean the money doesn't exist? This is one of the stupidest policies an online money transfer company can have.

I wonder if a class action can be filed over these policies.

Is it possible to show us what you "brought"? Maybe you should write up this whole experience on a blog to start getting this 5k back :D
