Hey guys, I installed my new header on my site, www.Date-Rater.com, please let me know how it looks! Thanks in advance! -Sean
Im no designer so I always user a professional for that sort of work Glitto is a very good one on this forum for a start.
Where can I find this "Glitto"? - plus, I think the new header looks a lot better than my old one..... http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb280/Peenuthead1/date.gif
Had a look at your site - good on you for getting it up. In the words of several IM greats "you don't have to get it right, you just have to get it going". I also love the shout box you have on there. Great tool. I've been looking for something similar for my site, so I might just follow your lead there... Hopefully you don't mind an honest opinion, so here's my female point of view I saw two main issues, personally. First: The header looks like it's got a voodoo doll being stuck with pins. That's a bit of a put-off, especially for a dating related site. It would be intimidating enough for someone to post a photo up for people to accept or reject, as the site seems to do, without having that image in their minds. Second: The colour scheme is also very dark. I normally would associate dating type sites with soft, easy colours like pastel green/blues, or whites. Not dark colours. Darker colours and angular letters in the bottom of the header screams that you're targeting male users only, and it's not really all that inviting for us women. Try googling 'colour psychology' and you should get some good stuff on which colours have which effects but I think just about any soft pastel or neutral colour would be good. The header fonts could be softened into something like a Verdana to make them a bit more universal, although the site name is fine as it is. Of course I could be wrong, and you could want to target men only, in which case none of my opinion matters. Having said that, you've got a good concept there, a bit like a reality tv contest we had down here in Australia recently. If you try to make it a little less intimidating it could be quite a fun service!
Wow - thanks for your input! I really appreciate the time you took to give me your insights. The reason why I chose the voodoo dolls & hearts as my logo, was because when using this site you have the choice of rating someone 1-10, along with choosing 'Yes' or 'No' if you would date them (If you're signed in as a member). These options signify that you have the "power" to choose what they should be rated based on your opinions as a user, hence the voodoo doll & hearts logo As for the audience, this site is intended for ALL audiences, not just males. I will try to work on some different color schemes, but I think it's going good so far. It'll take some time to experiment with some different colors, but I think I'm on the right track Also, take a look at my MySpace App and let me know what you think of that.... www.date-rater.com/myspace/rate.php Let me know your thoughts! - Thanks again! -Sean
Hi, Like the site, just one thing. Having google ads at the top takes away from the feel of the site, makes it seem a bit of an 'adsense' focused site. Otherwise... good work
Thanks for your feedback! Glad you like the site - I thought the AdSense would be positioned good there, but I can always move that out of there. If you have any positive suggestions, please let me know
