Such self promotion can cause flags to be raised and your account looked into. id suggest "liking" only the best pages rather then ALL. And NEVER do stumble exchanges, as that can result in a ban.
stumbleupon traffic is still good. and yes, it depends on the content. think of something that will make your visitors stop and browse around.
I somewhat disagree Qryztufre although It has never happened yet...my account is 4 years old and solid... im sure stumblers can tell a spammer from a ligit application...it is about professionalism not over thumbing the stumbler.... lolo
Stumble a thread here on DP and see what happens to your accounts Several folks here have been banned, and their TOS warns against self promotion... maybe you are just one of the lucky ones?
I've been watching this thread and you seem to reply to every response almost, did something happen to you with stumble or something? You seem very knowledgeable and/or very sour about the whole social bookmarking thing? Care to give any input?
I used to be in several stumble exchanges a few months back, then several threads popped up about people getting banned due to such things. I stopped exchanging and started to warn people against it. A few weeks ago I noticed that one of the threads I "liked" here at DP was not marked, so I 're-liked" it. I got an email the next day saying my email was on review (ie banned for a week). So now I pop in where ever I can to point out that it can be dangerous to play with SU. I'm speaking from experiences from myself as well as the word of several other members here on DP. *shrug* Digg also banns exchanges and those that do it, but heh, Digg offers NOTHING to my site, so I don't care as much... All that said, SU still ROCKS, and I do promote it's use... though I think it should be used more in line with it's true meaning: Getting COOL sites/pages looked at. (Because now when I use it as something fun, I get sick of getting spam pages in the mix). Heh, if I sound disgruntled, sorry, that is not how I mean to be coming across.
Qryztufre totally agree with you, but try to stumble here at DP the use of the stumble upon tool bar wont allow it anyway I tried. DP was banned from stumble because of Abusers doing that. not from DP its self but spammers using DP to promote there service by spaming from DP...that really hurt us.... ..... you can try to see as an example....but you know what SU is not the only social bookmarking application out there. Will you get lots of traffic from them? not really because when I checked my analytics to states I get some traffic but most of my websites traffic come from Google.com and squidoo.com I wrote a niche content article for a client of mine about super antioxidant green food I get times of unique visitors to this lense.... is also free sol there is another place to do social networking................. it depends on how you use their application.............. I've been if you're a content writer and to try to get the word out using social bookmarking is a smart thing to do all-around.
I see, thanks for the warnings, and I must agree I use stumble all the time with the stumble toolbar. It is a great way to find interesting stuff to write blogs about and what not.. Great idea, wish I would've thought of it.
StumbleUpon is great for getting traffic. The guy said the right thing that traffic comes one day and another day its lost. For one of my websites i got around 40 visits from stumbleupon and 5 of them were returning visitors. When i saw the traffic from StumbleUpon its nothing up only 2 lucky visits.
smashing that is quite a few page views for a social bookmark application.... although I've seen this happen before I'm getting a lot less page views from all of my social bookmark put together. I definitely recommend stumble upon.com because Web traffic it happened very fast. Make sure you use all the other social bookmark clips as well
Nr. 1 for the most narrow way of looking at your traffic I have ever read. If your sites have content that can't retain enough visitors/repeats to make it worth your bandwidth cost I recommend you shut your site down!
I would agree with that. Out of several thousands of stumbles I had a confirmed TWO members join my forum, and 3 or 4 clicks totaling about $12 cents. Worth the bandwidth? Maybe not, but it was certainly worth the two members (or maybe more). So gods forbid he actually get to the first page of Digg, lol...
so using stumble to get media ha ha lol thats funny because its relevant. use all the socials as well too...... I recommend Twitter.com
Stumbleupon is good for a spike in traffic. The reason is that when you first submit the site it goes onto the "Newest sites' page for that catagory. Everyone on stumble checks the new submissions out, then it gets booted off the next day.
If you want to see what StumbleUpon can do to bring in traffic then you can read about a little experiment I did. You can see some of my Google Analytics graphs which will show you how it brought thousands of visitors into one of my websites. http://digitalzips.com/can-social-networking-sites-bring-in-a-landslide-of-traffic/
Were you able to get something out of that traffic? I can easily create an auto refreshing page that would generate thousands of hits to my pages a day but what is the point in doing that? I too was able to get thousands of SU visitors but they did nothing but wasted the bandwidth...
I think you could submit several page of your site to stumble ,but this work you must do it everyday.
I think that stumble can be a great source of traffic but definitely not targeted. Some traffic is better than no traffic. You take the good with the bad.
