Given that each subcategory belongs to a different editor, the waiting can be brief, long or infinite. Maybe we should talk about editors or subcategories instead about dmoz as only one directory, unless we are talking about the archaic modality to manage submissions that has dmoz, giving the weak excuse that it's the best way to deal with spammers...close the directory, and you'll never receive another spam submission Transparency isn't incompatible with security, any hole can be patched.
That's why I think Dmoz no longer serve its purpose and we need new directories to improve the internet. But you can get in with some back deals!!!
That's not true... I have check the submitions guidelines more than once... I have some quality and popular sites and still after all this time none of my sites has been approved...
I agree with blackhumor, even after submitting the site as per the guidelines, they failed to approve it. Its just a way of creating the hype n demand
Its hit or miss with DMOZ, you could get lucky and submit to a category that is checked often, or you could be submitting to a category that is never looked at. Out of about 25 sites, I have 3 that were accepted into DMOZ. Also, I dont think it made a lick of difference in there rankings, /shrug. It can take years, or you simply may never get in. Also each time you submit, you go back to the end of the line. So if you submitted, waited 4 months, and then submitted that same site again, you just wasted 4 months of waiting cause you put yourself now back at the end of the line. Submit once, and only once, and forget about it.
Its made much harder because every "Tom Dick and Harry" submits 4-5 spammy Made For Ad Sites.........so instead of say 1000 quality sites to review, you have 5000 sites of which 4000 waste time being looked at. Multiply that by the real numbers and just imagine how many sites are submitted. Greedy webmasters are their own worst enemy. But every day they come here and whinge and moan. So whilst im telling some home truths. 1. No typos........ i see so many that mistype their url and it wont even work! Like the editor is going to spend 10 mins googling or finding the site when his cat has many, many more sites as options. 2. At least try an submit to guidelines.......the more it complies, the more it stands out, the easier it is to get the Editors attention. This improves your chances. 3. Dont post here and exagerrate or blatantly lie and say it was submitted X time and ive been waiting X months, when the Editor(s) can see when the submission was made, knowing you are decieving the forum. Bagging the editors aint going to help one bit.........after you submit, there is nothing else that you can do that will help, quicken or aid the inclusion of your site! Anything and i do mean anything else, will only delay the review. Just my whinge for the day
It is difficult to get into, but I have currently a site that i built from the ground up that i was approved and currently listed in dmoz. It is difficult but not impossible.
I have follow all the guidelines and still none of my sites are listed... I have submit a (popular) site over 3 years ago and still noone have check it... I even send an email to be a publisher and help them a little bit with my time and still no answer (this was over 2 years ago) So don't anyone think that dmoz is actually working...
