There are a bunch of plugins you missed that would help a startup blog... but then again, I guess it depends what you're trying to do specifically for the blog to begin with.

I didn't see this thread but I also had one about the best plugins you may need at http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1086344

 

Putting too many plugins will slow the blog... These are the most useful and best.

 

There's a plugin to help with that too -- wp-supercache.

Thanks for the list, when I get a chance I will install the Simple Tags plug in on my own blog.

 

Nice list, i used some of the plugins there all the time and i agree with deluxdon WP-backup is really important and also the super cache plugin.. saved my life once long time ago

The list of wp plugins is endless. I have about 8 blogs and I use different plugins for each one because each site has different needs. But there are some I ALWAYS use - and the very first one is always to set up the wp backup plugin. By always doing it first, firstly it's done and working, secondly it means if I mess up when doing anything else in my changes/build, I've always already got a backup and don't have to start from scratch.

 

I want that also add.

But also - Akismet - very good with fighting spam, StatPress - gives lot of information about visitors and AdSense Manager - we want to make money also

 

WP Review Site plugin another one ...

 

dead-on article, I've used every one of these personally. The sitemap plugin is the best if you ask me. Great post sir.
