    Hi everybody,

I just upgraded from a regular cheapo shared Dreamhost package to a Dreamhost Virtual Server package (PS and MySQL PS). To my dismay, I'm still not getting the performance I expected.

    My sites:

    Blog Site - (250 u/v per day)
Shopping Comparison Site - (New, but has 100k products - takes way too long to do product searches - 5-10 seconds!)
    Several other smaller Blog-based sites

    What I Need:

I need a hosting package that lets me host multiple domains and provides reliable, FAST database performance. My budget is $100/mo. I was thinking about getting a dedicated host, but I don't know that much about them or who provide the best value.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Rick

    Hi,

I have a very good friend who runs his own web hosting company, he offers a very personal service and always talks to all new clients personally via skype before signing them up in order to be sure that he can provide them with exactly what they need.

If you are interested his name is BJ and his skype ID is bjantiques. He is really easy to talk to, and if he cant provide you with what you need he will tell you so straight out which means you have nothing to lose by making the contact.

All the best in your search

Thanks guys for your suggestions -

I am definitely leaning towards a dedicated server instead of a Virtual Private one, but I would love to see if anyone has any personal experience with them.

From my research I have confirmed that Dreamhost has SLOW MySQL performance, even with the Private Server. I can't have this - any more suggestions!?

    Thanks!!!
    Rick

Check out liquidweb for dedicated. They start at 150/month. If you want to stay closer to your budget of around 100 a month look into the planet.

Honestly, you don't need a dedi.

For the SQL problem, you could buy 2 VPS's, and store the SQL on one, and the rest on the other.

Thanks again guys for these suggestions!:)

Peter, I'm interested in your suggestion about the 2 VPSs - what hosts do you recommend? And also, would it be suitable for a multiple domain situation? I need multiple MySQL databases for all of my sites.

Let me know what you think!

Well, you could even do it with a shared hosting for your files, and a VPS for the SQL, if it's that big.

I don't recomend any VPS providers, but I've heard that LiquidWeb is good (but pricey).

Thanks Alexa - I wish I knew about that site before I signed up to Dreamhost!

I've checked out a bunch and am leaning towards Lunarpages Dedicated I package. Seems to be pretty solid. Anybody out there have any experience with this host and/or other dedicated packages?
