    http://www.phplinkdirectory.com

Great forum support, and 2.0 is free and 3.XX is only 25.00 (once you purchase it's free upgrades until the next major rlease).

    I'd go for phplinkdirectory too
A lot of features and a big community for mods and skins.

Honestly I converted a template for my site and it was remarkably simple. The hardest part I had was to get the individual item listing correct.

The if statements can be a little bit tricky to code around but, totally possible with a small amount of trial and error.

If you ever get stuck then you can pop in the forums there and ask for help.

*disclaimer* I'm biased, I know it.

90% of the people will vote for phpld here, just try out the major players and see what works best for you. There are many threads about this here. I use both phpld and esyndicat and both are great scripts

Very similar scripts but each has some extra perks...

I paid for phpLD v.3 few month ago but never got it to work properly and all my requests for help were simply ignored on "paid" support forum...

On eSyndicat forum I usually get answers to all my questions within 24 hours.

So it's up to you to decide...
