Indian space agency ISRO to roll out a rival to Google Earth

After the successful Chandrayaan-1 mission to the moon, ISRO is preparing to launch Bhuvan (Sanskrit for Earth).

It will allow users to zoom in to 10 metres wide, compared to the 200 metre wide zoom limit on Google Earth.

Isro officials say Bhuvan will provide images of far greater resolution than are currently available online — particularly of the sub-continent, a region where large areas remain virtually unmapped.

It is interesting to note that the Government of India itself requested Google Earth to reduce zoom due to national security reasons.
