I don't know much about google analytics beyond the fact that it's useful for tracking websites/upward and downward trends in traffic on the net. I was wondering if anyone used it for their own sites and how it was beneficial?
I use it. It's excellent for tracking a lot of stats of your visitors. It's beneficial because you can find out which keywords work best for your site, par example.
I personaly prefer Mint, although it costs $30/license. AdWords is great if you don't have the budget for Mint (http://www.haveamint.com/), but Mint has such a nicer and more straight-forward approach to stats.
I use mint on my main blog and google analytics on everything else... Mint is great because it gives real time updates - you can see minute by minute how many hits you have while you have a to wait a whole day to get that info with google analytics
That's not completely true. Set your calendar to today's date and Google Analytics provides real-time stats.
real-time-ish .... many a time i have checked my stats at say 1am for the previous day, and then checked them again at 8am for the previous day with more visitors showing ... there is definitely a lag in the time it takes some, but only some, visitors to show up in your statistics...
I use analytics for all my main websites (5 of them) especially ones where I use google adwords. It's great, and improves intermittently. I used to use AWStats (installing it myself on the server) before switching to Google Analytics.
I use to all my websites and I check everyday were the traffic cames from. Google analytics is highyly recommended! you can see were your traffic comes from to just by country or city but even by the smallest town on Earth! also it gives you the average time spending on your site as well as you can set goals! great for forums and ecommerce websites
I am using both – Statcounter and Google Analytic… Statcounter for dynamic control. Analytic for analytic…
This is exactly what I do as well. Always have more than one tracking system, don't rely on just G, it does give good data however Statcounter/other third parties give you other/more data, and it's good to split test your analytics.
