This is the biggest robbery, the Saudi supertanker itself costs $150 mln + 2 mln barrels of oil on it ($100 mln) = $250 mln

Tanker hijacked in Somali pirates' biggest-ever heist:

We had a good article in our papers about this... my kids are fascinated by the idea of pirates - although these guys hardly count as swashbucklers. I guess the guy with 3 wives is happy... just a shame what the Somali people do to their little girls, the wives won't be able to appreciate his attentions.

sara, the funny part is that, the route of travelling to US was a longer one than usually, to avoid these pirates, and they still managed to hijack it. I wonder what their ransom will be

I don't think bush will go to another war!
So, it is just what the pirates want (and it will be keep going up after each ship)

It is Obama to decide on what to do with these guys!

And he won't go to war as well - Just keep paying them.

they may actually ask for military arsenal so they can capture more and more ships.

Somalia is a wretched place in the world. No effective govt. No ability to earn money. Competing forces for control of a crummy land, unfortunately that has been raped and pillaged. IMHO, it libertarianism in its evil form.

Piracy seems to be the best way to earn a living. They get hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars. Piracy is a growth job in Somalia.

Rob Jones had a good idea about piratism. Blow em up to smithereens.

    That ends piracy.

The pirates are making a lot of money and turning their region in Somalia into a boom town

Either bomb them into oblivion........OR...(note to Rob)..they could be investors in Texas real estate

Did Rob have a reply in this thread or are you just egging him on about something from another thread?

As for the pirates, pay them with pesos and then shoot them after they lug the bags of pesos back to one of their boats. This will help increase the value of the peso as a bunch sit on the ocean floor.

Do you need a college degree to become a pirate?

Not egging him at all. Just kidding him. He had a comment elsewhere about bombing the pirates, once and for all. I agree with that.

Once the private guards start being used then you'll see lots of people dying and the stakes getting really high. They probably could have stayed "under the radar" if they hadn't gone for "the big one" and attracted the world's attention.

earlpearl, blow them and sink them?

Its easy to say, if US can pay 250 mln to Saudia Arabia for blowing it, then go ahead :) I doubt that. I guess 100 mln already paid for the oil.

There are pirates in Texas RE investment that probably are as deserving of being targeted, but I figure we can shoot at those later. I already have enough problems along those lines... they really shouldnt call it "Tourist Season" if we weren't supposed to shoot 'em. We're easily confused around here.

Yeah, the pirate thing in Somalia is gettin' way outta hand, and they're gonna have to adopt a military solution or it'll just continue. Paying them off is hardly going to discourage the practice, so common sense dictates a different approach. India did what the rest of us oughta be doing... thin the herd. Might be a good time to do fall back on tradition and start hanging pirates.

Punitive raids on the pirate bases could be an answer.

The pirates who took the oil ship want $25 million

According to this article it appears the world is going to follow up on the RobJones theory.

Hey Rob, instead of running for Pres...why not become "Dirty Harry" for the world and take on these dudes. They shoulda listened to you the first time you suggested gunning down those pirates.

Yeah, governments from national to municipal are oddly known to fail to accept my recommendations. Go figure. Common sense is poorly named. LOL

Someone should send some ships in there with zero cargo and some troops on board instead. Maybe some decks rigged to drop the pirates straight into brigs. How about exploding doorknobs on the pilot house? Stairs that turn into chutes, halls that turn into cages. Send the ship through there slowly, wait till they come on board, and BAM! Then hang the pirates upside down while taking photos and videos.

I say we get some folk in a wooden ship with old cannons dressed as classical pirates to pirate the pirates.

Yo ho yo ho and such. Just to warp their minds.
