How to get people to comment on your blog

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by slymarketing, Nov 18, 2008.

I find it difficult to get people to comment on my blog, even though I have quite a few people reading it (more than 700 unique every day).

I have tried to ask questions in my blog posts, but instead of getting people to comment, I receive e-mails with the comments.

Is it really that hard to get comments, do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Jens

just ask them to comment your post in "Comments"

make this process as ease as possible - make it easy to post comments - don't require registration, don't require anti-bot numbers.

Yes, maybe the problem has been that I have asked people a question, without telling them to comment?

I have made it really easy to comment, no registration needed (not even a captcha)

Make sure you don't require people to register to comment.

There are several WP plugins especially designed to get people to comment more:

CommentLuv - displays the commentor's latest blog post

Lucia's Linky Love - set the required number of comments someone has to make to make all his links 'DoFollow' links.

WPMagnet - reward commentor's for every x comments they leave

    ;)

The CommentLuv will help. When I hit a CL blog, I always comment.

Interesting, how do you find them?

    Are you using Technorati?

    Thanks :D

    Some more tips:

    Top Commentors widget
    - Reward top commentors by adding their link to your blog sidebar

Keep the interaction going with the 'Multi Author Comment Notification' plugin, which allows people to be notified of new follow-up comments
(MaxBlogPress has several cool (free) plugins for WP)

And of course, there's nothing that works better to bring in comments than adding a little controversy to your posts...

Answer all emails you received and ask them to post questions on your site :).

Controversy. Post stuff that will get people talking. IE "Obama sucks, and here is why". You will for sure get comments. You should see some of the stuff i have posted on my site, i have over 100 comments on some of my things; funny thing is, its the commentors arguing amongst themselves.

Just contribute valuable information to blogs or forums and offer some helpful insights, and they will eventually visit your blog and comment.

I don't know why you would want comments ? I delete the crap all day and I am sick of them .... most are ping and comment spam.

Something no one has mentioned yet (which is REALLY sad)...

    Post something worth commenting on!

kallell came close, but it goes much deeper then controversy. Humor works just as well as slander, and does not run the risk of lawsuits ;) Posting well informed information can be a HUGE boon for getting comments as well. Forming a sense of community can also work, though that often takes a lot of networking power (NOT SPAM, and there is a difference). Though, in all, posting something worthy of being talked about will generally get someone talking...
