    That's a good image which summarizes the 'common' SEO techniques. Why a special column for directory links? Wouldn't article directory links, classified links etc. fall in same category? What about nofollow social bookmarking links and blog comment links?

    Pretty basic tree, I highly recommend printing this out if you're new to the SEO game. As Jitendraag suggested, add additional link sections

    It's my first time to saw it :D Based on my observation, there are important factors that are not included in the tree. Like, where do we need to get links? what kind of techniques? and what type of links? and so on...

    For a while now Google has viewed new content especially from blogs as reason for higher ranking. FRESH content is how we have been discussing this for years.

    This is why blogs are so hot in serps. BUT you will find that if you ranked #1 the first day a week later might be #10 as others have either fresher content, older site, or an authoritative site for that subject.
