PR 0 Due to Forum SPAMMERS

Hello All,

I have noticed that a while back all the sudden my PR dropped to 0 where it was at 4 just a few months before! I had no idea why for the longest time but after reading up on what google bases their PR on, I think I figured it out.

I run a website auction related forum which has perfectly legitimate auctions and lots of useful website auction related info but it has been getting a lot of SPAMMERS posting to credit card numbers, drugs, and other illegal crap. I only have time to clean the forum once a day so I think google ends up indexing some of that and thinking my site is bad.

Would this be a fair assumption? Has anyone else seen this or experienced this before? If I do a better job of cleaning these, will google restore my rank?

The funny thing is that as far as traffic goes, it hasn't really dropped much, I still rank pretty high for websites for sale and other things.

 

Manually setting your PR to zero is usually done because they suspect you are selling links.

 

Oh! ... that's interesting. I didn't know that was a problem! I guess Google doesn't like the competition ...
Why isn't selling advertiser links and banner space considered a legitimate income stream for a website?

 

well, just ignore PR then, i think...

 

You can sell as much advertising as you want as long as you make the links "nofollow". Goggle's ad are all nofollow and they are cracking down on sites selling page rank.

 

Maybe you should have moderated/no followed those comments from the start

 

Yeah that No Follow is a very good idea, I know my bloggers and many social websites also do that.

 

you should have no followed for your site to avoid those spam.

 

How about the ranking? If there is no change in ranking then you do not need to worry so much about the PR.

 

Page rank is not you goal rankings and traffic are well said

 

Manually setting a blog or a website to zero by google staff? That is quite a bit of attention!

 

Whats your site URl. Maybe you mis-checked? Try defaulting links outbound to nofollow.

 

For that you have to mention some rules and conditions for forum members. You can also banned such users and clean their post. You need to give time and attention to your forum everyday.

 

Once u fix the problem it will be OK. And also there will not be any problem bcz PR1 To 0 is common, if dropping more PR at a time will be problem. Any how search ur site in google if found meant theer will not be much problem and also try to make more back links then wait until next PR updates

 

Askimet is a good tool to stop spam - I use it on my wordpress blog.

 

Hey if your site is getting good organic traffic (from search enginges) as before..
Then forget about PR if it is less becoz of selling links..

your aim is to have a good forum on a topic of your interest and you are getting good traffic. Just enjoy

 

moderate the posts and users regularly .. PR will automatically improve
