I think Towbar makes a really good point - not all misspellings are programmed into the SE's algorhithms, and the one's that aren't won't trigger a 'Did you mean?' suggestion. Another good reason to include them in SEO strategy. :)

I like the title - 'Cast Under A Misspell'. Wish I'd thought of it. ;)

If you want to misspell words in your text to rank people will think you are kind of dumb, but one time I started seeing hits from a misspelled word, I guess I did not use the spell checker, so it can be done!

I think the trick is working it into your content in a way that people won't think you're kind of dumb. ;)

Exactly, and I have read that Matt Cutts made a post that said that sites can be penalized for using misspellings in a way that is obvious that it is purely for seo purposes. How good the algorithm to detect this is (if there is one), I'm not sure but you could be reported.

Some of my first rankings were accidental and misspells. I would only target misspells with blog entries and be very careful with that as well. If your reputable site contains misspells, you will turn off potential customers. In blog entries it's overlooked easier.

You can optimize for mispells without coming across as unprofessional. Stick them in your meta tags and in your footer if you wanted to aswell.

When you say "blog entries", are you referring to a blog on your site, or a blog used to promote your site, i.e. 'blog and ping'?

    Thanks,

Either way, both will attract and lead extra visitors to your site, but having the blog on your own site is best :)
