A lot of css problems are caused by invalid css code / html.

Especially the problems where something looks different in Firefox / Internet Explorer. I have found that Firefox can ignore bad code sometimes whereas IE can't. This can cause things to look different in different browsers and the problem can not always be identified.

You can quickly see errors when code is validated:

    http://validator.w3.org/

    http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/

You should put a sticky explaining that this can often solve the problem.

    thanks.

It's not really the moderators job to make non rule/forum related stickies, they're far too busy dealing with spammers, moaning newbies and bad tempered members but you can always post it yourself and link to it in your signature so people can go and look if they want.

It sounds like a good idea... in theory. Thing is (and I can tell you this from experience), people tend to ignore stickies until they get slapped about the head with them. Still, I'll wait to see what the other mods think about it. One idea that immediately springs to mind (same as Electric-Shadow's) is that you create an informative CSS FAQ thread. Chances are it would continually be at the top of the CSS forum. Just a thought.

    lol.

I just thought it would help a lot of people get their answers quicker. I don't think many people would see it if I put it in my sig.

Like I said, I think it's a reasonable idea but mostly people don't read stickies until they get slapped around the head with them.

What I mean is you create a CSS FAQ thread, something informative, maybe dealing with the most common CSS issues like browser compatibility. When people reply to it, it will automatically get bumped to the top of the forum anyway. If it turns into a good enough resource it may end up stickied.

An example of a similar situation would be like this one on Adsense.

Sorry, I wrote my reply at the same time you were writing yours.

I don't really know enough to write an imformative thread. I have just come across this quite a lot. People don't know how or just don't validate their code.

Why not do it yourself? Find useful links, and stuff.

Like the Adsense one, and the other ones
