    Hi all,
I want to start my own web design business. There are some questions that are luring in my mind. I do have one or two clients to get started but how can I get more and spread my work to masses? How do I start designing for people? Do I need a site that displays my work, etc?

Yeah, having a site that showcases your portfolio would help a lot. After setting up your site portfolio you have to then focus on marketing your service.

the big problem is content management. you can make a sweet site, but the average person who knows no coding would have no idea how to edit anything

    Disagree with VarriaStudios.

I think if someone's new to this, it means they're low on credibility. They should not be charging per hour.

Poduko, its not an easy task to attract the customers. You must develop your portfolio. So I suggest you to do few sites free of charge to few peoples. Then you can show your skills to others. Its a good step to start.

develop your own content managment system or have one developed for you which only you know how to develop templates for, then offer the option of inbuilt cms for extra $25 then promote to local businesses and on places like scriptlance, i have seen business in the local phone book/yellow pages offer 3page websites + domains + hosting for £500 just because local business dont know the going rate

also, if you already have clients, word of mouth is a big help is web design. Yes you do need a website to show ur portfolio, but if your good, people will find you through your websites. Start cheap and then keep going up until people wont pay. Everyone needs to start somewhere.

You already have some clients, so you're already off and running. Do some advertising, build your portfolio, it will come in time. Rome wasn't built in a day.

First off work locally, advertise in the local newspapers. They are less in tune than those that are always on the web and you can build your confidence. Then you can begin to compete with those that work on the web.

I suggest learning business management and marketing. Design is only one aspect of the business if you plan on having a professional design agency.
