Could you please share your experiences on having domains and hosting with the same company? What are your opinions on free domains provided by hosting companies? Do you have domain names with the same company or separately?
unless you plan on buying or selling this is the wrong section for this - but anyway. i keep my things separately and free domains are useful if you are starting out and have no money to go with a domain or don't know if it will be successful enough for a full domain - i haven't done that in years though
It is considered a good practice to register your domains somewhere else, so that if your hosting company runs away, or has problems, you won't lose control of your domains.
yes thats true and also many hosting companies doesn't offer some specific TLDs and therefore it is always good to register the domains at some registrar and keep the domains separately from your hosting.
I agree, keep them separate, that way problems with one service wont affect the other. For example if you have a billing dispute with your host you dont want them holding your domains for ransom.
I have registered a domain on my host as well a while ago. I learned later on that it was a mistake to do so, and I am lucky I had a good host or I could have been screwed later on down the line. As everyone else has said, do it separately.
I always answer this question the same way. "Do not shit where you eat." The main problem with having them at the same place is that if there is a problem in regards to a hosting violation or if you are reported for something such as spamming, the host will freeze both your hosting and your domain. If you have them separate, you can use a back up of your sites on a new hosting and just change the Name Servers. This means you could feasible have your site back up in a matter of a couple of hours. There have been horror stories of webmasters losing everything because their accounts are froze. For this reason, always keep them separate.
Maybe we will all get moved since this is in the wrong forum. Keep them Seperate. I have the right to a free domain from my host along with my plan. I have not and will never use it.
Me always suggest bothe in one comapny bcz all the changes u done in hosting immediately effect if its in same company. IF change name server , add sub domain etc the effect will be within a hr. But in the case off diff company some time its taking 24 hrs
No. I register domain at other registrar and host my domain at other place. For the free domain,i will transfer the domain to my account before my hosting expired
I prefer registering my domain names from the best companies on the web.. But I host them on the cheapest hosts.
I register all my domains on name.com, and hosting is on my own dedicated server in Washington D.C. (from Softlayer) with 2x. Intel Xeon Quadcore processors, 16GB ram, 4x 250GB HDD and a dedicated 100/100mbit connection... It fits my needs perfectly
I always register my domains with reputed registrars for better security although I mostly use cheap hosts
It's better to keep them separate. Let domains registrars handle the domain and hosting company handle the website.
keep them separate, most hosts put your domain in their name and use it as a way of keeping clients hostage of their hosting services
i always keep them separate just incase my webhosting dump me. i had some very bad web hosting experience with DREAMHOST.COM before. Good thing i dont buy domains from them.
personaly my self i have never bought a domain from the same place i got hosting from. i always use 123 reg for mydomains. i have always used them no matter the price else where so i can have all my domains with the same person. .info's are regulary as low as 99p on 123-reg.co.uk
Definetly use them separatelly, a day when the host will hate you or you will hate them (most probable) will come and bye-bye domain name.
