Wordpress - changing permalink structure ruins all the links

I wanted to change my permalink structure from the default "/?p=1234" to "/%category%/%postname%/" but it messed up the links, so that when I visited the site and clicked on the names of the posts to view them as single posts, it just said "error - nothing found." Anyone know if there's a way to do this?

Make sure you have your .htacess permissions set to 666 before you set the permalink structure. I run many blogs and I have no problems at all with the structure.

Though I'd give up my right arm to know how to get rid of the /category/ link. That's real pissing off.

There's a plugin called "category killer" - that doesn't work?

.htaccess permissions should be 666 when you want to change your permalinks. Please check your .htaccess. Is it empty ?

You need to use the plug in Platinum SEO pack . I wrote a review about it on my blog. It fixes all links when you cahnge your permalinks. It is great!

Which files do I change the .htaccess for? Right now everything is either 755 or 644.

I tried it with /%category%/%postname%/ because I want the category name in the permalink too.

I have replaced it on all my blogs. It has features that the first one did not. The creator basically took the old plug in and updated it. He even gave credit back to the original designer.

Someone asked me a question and I went to the link I quoted. I must have copied the wrong link. Sorry, the link is here and in my review
