make some content so people will come to you from SE and don't just put the shop on site because that way you will not get many SE visitors. Since it is commerce site you will have to advertise a bit I think....

    Hi Vipergfx ,

First step to do is to get yourself a good domain name ;)

A good domain name should be highly relevant to your site content. Use Overture tool to do some research on the amount of searches performed on your selected keywords.

Once you have the right domain name, you have won the battle 50% upfront :D

After the domain name research, you should follow up your killer strategy with White Hat SEO techniques. Feel free to visit my SEO site in my sig for some effective techniques :)

    Good Luck!

I always pick up some keywords I want to promote BEFORE I write a content on a page.

It's much easier to write a content once you know which keywords you should use because as you write, you can focus on the keyword density, tag to insert, etc. It's not wise to find keywords only for meta tags.

If you don't have your domain name yet, consider purchasing an expired one... older sites tend to rank better

Viper... here's what you should do. Period... [at first]

    1. Make sure your site is capable of being navigated through and errors don't pop up during checkout, etc. - after that's done...

    2. Try to modify your urls so they appear static - the chances of somebody typing the url to one of your pages will increase if you have an easier to remember url, and as far as SEO is concerned, you'll have 'better' indexing in the fact that your site will look more attractive in the results compared to the other useless spam sites out there.

    3. If you don't have a robots.txt file - make one with this in it:
    User-agent: *
    Disallow:

    4. Backlinks do help with popularity/ranking, but, to stick to old methodologies - get links to your site from websites that matter. Don't search Google for useless directories and small websites. Find the pages that people view, if it ranks well in Google for a similar keyword as to what you're wanting to rank for - it may be a good site to get a link from. You can do this by calling the person and leaving a message - email - however aggressive you want to be... and anyone complaining "I hate phone calls" - they are the ones with a great site, just respect the fact that at 7pm they are probably eating dinner/relaxing with their families.

    5. Don't submit your site to search engines. Search engines were created to provide a resource to Internet users - let them find you naturally.

    6. As I've stated in previous posts - if you have an online store that is more "personalized" - try to write up a WordPress/Blog [installed on your hosting account] in which you focus on topics related to your industry. Try to get links that way - it will always help.

Unless you want to spend a lot of time learning about seo, web design and marketing I would suggest hiring a professional. It will save you tons of blood, sweat and tears. If you are the business owner and it sounds like you are, your time would be better spent on the business.

By the way, hope you're enjoying San Diego. I used to live there, La Jolla.

Anyway, let me know if you need any help.

Or, you could hang out in this forum and learn to do it yourself. I personally find it fun and challenge learning all about marketing, PPC advertising, black/white hat SEO. Interesting and fun. At least I think so. Your business is not going to be exactly booming from the get-go, so it's not like you won't have the time. And there's a lot of stuff you can do to help the site that is free. I don't see the need to pay people unless you just don't have the time.
