Greetings Let's say i have domain http://www.shiningsushi.com where i host a website about sushi. Now i have pr 6 on the front page of the website, now i have subdomain about sushi dishes http://dishes.shiningsushi.com that has pr 2. Now i have competitor with pr 5 site, on same subject that ranks 1 on google. Do i get any benefit from the pr 6 on the main page of my website to the dishes subdomain or do i just count in with the pr 2 subdomain? Thanks for answers!
A lot of folks worry about PR rating. PR rating today, really does not amount to a hill of beans. Do a search on anything u want. Start from the top results and work your way down looking at PR rating. You will see sites with a PR rating of 2 that appear way before a site that has a PR of 5. Why? Do it a few times and you will see what I mean. My point being that given that each page of a website is rated, not the entire site, and given that if you have applied basic SEO on the page, something must decide which page appears first. What decides is backlinks, good backlinks. I've seen Amazon Astores get top listing. They normally have zero content. The ones on top have thousands of backlinks. Your goal should be to get your page on the first page of Google Search results. To heck with PR. Don't worry about it. Concentrate on just good content and realize that the first time google spiders your site, you will more than likely be sitting at a PR of 2 or 3 automatically. The next time it will probably drop to a 1 or 0. Probably due to the old "Sandbox" theory. After a few months, it will go back to a 3 or so, depending on what is done to the page.
The thing is, that my website is superior compared to competition in: - Looks - Content - Useability Thing is, that i have developed it behind close doors. The site is quite large, but it's not on web yet. I tought i build some PR before i drop it in, maybe pr 4 or so, with minimal content. The point being, that i want to suprise my competition, when i throw the package in it's so large and has so much content that it's hard to do anything about it at that point. So now my only worry is how would google look at this. My site has been indexed for about 9 months time, just few pages or so with pr 0. Now i'm starting to build pr, with quality backlinks. I'm shooting for quality not quantity on the backlinks. How would you think google looks at this?
Subdomains are treated separately, so the answer to your question is no unless your PR 6 homepage links to the subdomain.
Surprising your competition may be a good. But google may not like the idea of a sudden burst of large number of pages in a site which got very few content. What you should be doing is, 1. Regularly update your site. You don't need to add 10 pages a day. May be one page a day for couple of days. 2. Build links in a consistent manner. Don't build too many links now. 3. Find out potential places where you can get links. But don't get them yet. 4. Now your site is being crawled regularly by google as fresh content is added. Time to launch your site. 5. Launch your site. Add all the content. 6. Immediately write a press release about the new lanuch 7. Digg about the site. Also add to similar news sites like propeller. Like snowbird said, google treats sbdomains separately. So, place link from your PR6 page to your subdomain in a prominent place. -Neo
Well, i got well over 100k pages to be indexes heh heh, so quite alot. I think i will add 20 pages of content slowly and build links, then dumb the whole crap in heh heh.
