Lots of European countries are, there's just nothing done about it.

England played Spain last year and every time a black player touched the ball it sounded like the majority of the crowed booed them. There were also things chucked at them. The Spanish coach also made racist remarks about Theirry Henry being a n****r.

In Italy various incidents have invloved players being hit by coins, lighters and mobile phones during European cup games. PLayers (Di Canio) giving Fascist salutes to the crowd and unbelieveably a moped being chucked off the top teir of a stadium onto rival fans below.

In Turkey after the national team was knocked out of the tornament by the Swiss the crowd rioted and attacked the Swiss team, team bus and rival fans.

But the English are still the problem right?

Either Brazil or England. This year England will be a tough contender. And dont under-estimate Argentina. :)

The European teams play with too much finesse and too little power. Portugal, Spain, Italy, even France (England is something of an exception) can't keep up in higher scoring games...

Now, South American footballers (Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay) they have powerful strikers who bash at the goal (midfielders often take many more shots) and an agile fleet up front who can clean up the mess. The power teams can play some finesse points, but the finesse teams don't use the same format and thus often fail to score as much in games where there're a lot of goals.

My vote goes to Brazil or Argentina.

I remember watching what was supposed to be the game in 1986 where British fans killed 40 Italian fans, still remembering the images. That's something that sticks. I didn't know about the other European fans getting out of control like that, but I believe it. Sad. Soccer is supposed to be a fun game. Too many people use it as a substitute for their personal failures in life and take being a fan to a whole new level.

Don’t forget that a lot of these players play for European teams. Portuguese teams are full of Brazilian players. This helps us understand and learn their style of playing soccer.

Well, I think it's also because in Europe they take soccer FAR to seriously, and its been allowed to get out of hand.

I agree, I'm in Holland right now, and they are going nuts over the World Cup. And it hasn't even started yet ...

    Exactly, that 20 years ago!
English football has dealt with it's unsavoury elements fairly well, there are still problems, though these are isolated and not on the same scale. There are at least 5-6 other nations who bury their heads in the sand and deny their being any problems at all.

That doesn’t happen in every European nation. Portugal is fanatic about soccer and you never hear people fighting each other over soccer. The main problem comes from countries like England and Germany. When we hosted the Euro 2004 there was no problems because they knew from the very beginning that we would not allow that sort of behaviour.
