Optimizing .ca Domains

Can you optimize a .ca domain the same way you could .com? That is, are .ca domains penalized on the regular Google for being a foreign extension? I want to optimize a .ca name, but I'm not sure it's worth it if it will be fighting a losing battle.

The only domain TLD that some people believe start off on a bad foot are .info domains, because they are so cheap they are often bulk bought by search engine spammers, as such some people belive that search engines keep a critical eye on .info domains.

 

Interesting responses. As for this comment, I searched SEO Company, and no .ca domain was within the first 100 results.

WHAT!! This is CRAZY! I just searched on Google ".ca domains search engine optimization" to find more answers, and THIS thread was the first result. I MADE THIS THREAD THIS MORNING, AND IT IS ALREADY NUMBER ONE ON GOOGLE FOR A SEARCH TERM! That's just weird!

 

there is difference what kind of domen you use, but influence is so small in comparison with backlinks

If you look at google.ca then that company is the first result you get for "Seo Company". Btw, that site has to be one of the ugliest sites on the internet

 

Not at all suprising, it's a very specific question and the this thread has the exact title matching to this question, not only that but DP is a PR7 domain with thousands of links pointing to it.

 

A country specific TLD is great for ranking within the Google version for that specific region. For example, .ca should rank well within Google.ca but it takes just as much worked to get ranked in Google.com as any other site.

I have a country specific TLD and I rank for every top keyphrase in a highly
competitive field within the Google for that particular country, but in the
Google.com, I don't rank for nearly as many of the same keyphrases.

 

I see, but it is possible to rank foreign domains on Google, just harder it appears. No matter, as long as it works.

 

Not its not! Just take a look at my sigs. Its not penalize. =)

 

I have optimized .ca domains no problem, however i did have problem with .biz but i am still working on it lets see what happens with that.
