Yahoo $2.99 Domain - For Real?

I have been searching around and then i found out Yahoo had .COM domains for only $2.99, however, some other domain companies tend to have really high renewal fees (ie. IproWeb). So i was wondering whether anyone here has used the Yahoo domains and how much is it the renew that domain purchased?

    Thanks heaps!

    That's right but beware.

If you have any reason to transfer you domain after the first year, you can do it easily, but if you forget to cancel your "premium service" (domains) they will charge you the renewal even after transfer it away :O

Yahoo uses Melbourne IT as their domain reseller, as do many other hosts (including Microsoft's Office Live). I only mention this for full disclosure ... it won't be Yahoo itself managing the domain.

A while back, I had my domain name registered with Yahoo and had my web site hosted there too. Yahoo uses Melbourne IT, which means that you are given very little control over your domain name. I had my domain names transferred to GoDaddy later and switched to a different host. For domain name, I'd recommend going with a company like GoDaddy, who is not a middle man.

Yahoo domains are cheap for the first year, but major hassle sometimes to transfer. I would suggest pay the extra cash and go with Godaddy.

You get what you pay for. Every domain that yahoo sells is at a loss, as verisign charges yahoo more for .com's than yahoo charges the consumer, so what benefit do they get from this loss-leader?
Basically, the opportunity to upsell crap, AND renewal fees once you realize it's damn-near-impossible to get your domain out of yahoo.

I didn't have that kind of experience. I just told GoDaddy I wanted them to take over the domain, unlocked it on Yahoo and all went well.

I had no trouble at all transfering from yahoo.com to godaddy.

I did have some difficulty at first because I had never done a transfer before so I email Y! and asked them how to do it and needless to say they were less than helpful!

I would stay away from Yahoo. I got a $2.99 domain and cancelled automatic renewal and they won't let me access my domain now...I am thinking: WTF?

I can access it again I guess...IF I sign up for one of their cheesy hosting plans. How dumb is that?

I registered a bunch of domains with Yahoo a few months back and never had any problems although I haven't tried a transfer out yet. I don't bother with them now since they don't offer the cheap domain anymore if you have already purchased from them so now you can only register 1 cheap domain with Yahoo as far as I know

But does Yahoo charge additional for privacy domain? Renewing at Godaddy $8.95/domain (with no coupons considered) plus $8.95/domain for privacy.

$2.99 is for one domain name registration right, not unlimited domain name registration for $2.99/each right?

    Yep.

But for various reasons I've been juggling assorted Yahoo accounts for many years.
