My Traffic & Promotion Experiment - for the Public

Hey Guys,

I am continually being asked about my technique, so in this sample I will conduct a simple Traffic & Promotional campaign of my Blog, I will try to get my blog from it's current stagnant state to a Blog that gets a lot of traffic and as fast as possible .... my previous effort took me three weeks to get from 0-10000 unique visitors daily (before Google slapped me for some un-known reason).

So feel free to dob me in (to Google) or cause me dilemmas in the future - although I am doing nothing wrong ....

To begin with :

A) I had a head start as this site has a PR3, several pages within have a PR3 also, some content was already indexed. I have set up wordpress with a 404 error page to catch any previous traffic from old pages and try to maintain the pages with PR also.

B) The simple set up, I go to my secret source of key words and popularity of searches, I trickle my way down the list and create a post for each search phrase or term - I do this to populate the Blog and it helps me to create categories.

C) At this point in time I don't use any other long tail or related search terms for the current posts - for instance I have a post "Flu Symptoms" - after I have a populated Blog that's ready - I would expand on Flu Symptoms with long tail search terms like : Flu Symptoms 2008 and create the similar posts .... but for now I will add them as tags.

D) I will also submit a few Diggs etc to attract the spiders to the site.

That's what I am doing today, populating the blog with posts, next I will clean up the template, add some ad's and optimize the blog for search engines.

OK, the day started as stated above, a blog and a few posts and right now :

There's about 100 Pages indexed in Google.
Time taken to index is less than an hour (per post).
Now over 150 posts in total.

Traffic has picked up already :



As you can see within the first 7 hours there has been : 350 visitors.
267 Visitors came from search engines.

I am about to call it a day, for two reasons, one : the traffic is from the USA so it'll be really low for a few hours anyway and I am tired - with the flue.

Tomorrow will be the same, a lot of posts and I may update the ad's and template a little.

I have only submitted one post to Digg and I haven't performed any other off site work - all work is where it should be and that's on my site.

 

OK so I started a little late today, my little man is cranky and I still have the flu .... started at about 10am ....

So far there are over 500 pages indexed in Google - last night there was about 100.

Traffic has just picked up - since I started to post again, today I am just adding more posts, I may start to add some long tail key words / search terms to the blog as posts (obviously).

Traffic for today is already : 426 unique visitors - with about 10 hours left.
Traffic for yesterday finished on : 496 unique visitors (not bad for first day).

 

Outstanding start, Do you think this traffic is only coming because you are posting so often to your blog ?

 

Here comes a dumb question. If you already have 500 pages indexed then how many you actually started with and how many posts you adding a day?

 

Yes .... and it's a little more complicated - it's the topics and titles of the posts that are popular.

Mmmm good question, I believe there would have been about 50 posts when I began, about 50 of those were indexed - before I began the campaign yesterday, last night there were 100 pages indexed and as of now there 594 indexed. Obviously the number will drop and rise .... each page needs at least one link to it to remain indexed .... then in a matter of debate each post should be no more than 1 link away from front page to remain indexed.

There has been 676 visitors today, it will go quiet now as the US traffic drops off.

 

Here's a sample of some popular long tail search terms, I will slowly start to introduce this technique in the coming days, I wanted some Google presence and a bit of authority to begin with - before I really jump on this technique. This technique will hopefully get some more search engine traffic and these search terms wont have as much competition :

That's the popular search term, then there are 5 more, for these six search terms I create individual posts - here are the other search terms :

adrienne bailon leaked pics, adrienne bailon., bailon photos, cheetah girls, racy photos of cheetah girl

Pretty simple really, but effective, I also use these six search terms as the Tags within each post - creates extra links back to each post and in turn each post is a link to each tag.

 

Day 2 finished strongly with 1175 visits.



Close to 2000 visitors in the first two days :



And you can see a large increase in traffic from day one and day two.

Today I might adjust the template a little more, scrap the tags from right hand panel, add 20 last posts - instead of 10, and add the final adsense unit.

And again Boom - site disabled / dropped from Google ? what the hell is going on ?

is someone at DP sabotaging me ?

 

You need to slow down. If you keep on adding hundreds of stories from xml feed every day, it does look suspicious.

 

Mmm yeah i understand that, but each post is manually created, posts aren't fetched automatically.

Also I will show you a site that fetches content automatically, displays just an API feed with no content but ad's and is very similar to my technique - yet this site is ranked in the top 1000 in alexa ?

Also what about all the RSS galleries / directories / social sites etc. all of which are reliant on pings (automatic & duplicate content) for example technorati - how many blogs auto ping them daily ?

It's ridiculous .... I started the posts two days ago and boom .... game over .... I knew it would go this way. Let's see what happens after this.

Yeah I believe the sites are being seen as MFA (made for adsense) soooo ....

A) I guess I could add some text to each post from now on - 150 words or so.
B) Include better results and text.
C) Would it make a difference if I didn't add Adsense ? then it's not made for Adsense I guess.

 

Visitors or search engines? Based on your stats it looked like just a bunch of spiders crawling your site.

 

Yeah most are or were visitors - I know exactly where they are coming from .
