Hey, Throughout the ages I have been wondering what the hell squidoo was exactly - then I discovered it was an AMAZING tool I which I had discovered earlier. Anyways - How come I see a lot of Squidoo Lenses selling for more than $100? They do not even seem that amazing - I don't get what all the fuss is all about - Someone care to explain? Thanks
Where are you seeing Lens for sale ? Lens do get ranked well with Google | my-linker.com/hop/SquidooCashMachine - This is a great e-book for making a lens as well.
Anything that gets traffic can sell for 100$. If your dog was attracting 2k uniques a day, you could sell it on sitepoint for 300$...
You can make around $7-8/month if the lens ranks high enough. And then if it's driving traffic to your website, you might earn more there.... And if you have affiliate links on the lens, you can earn even more.
That sums it up, although some lenses make a lot more than $7-8 per month. I have one lens that has made around $350 (although it took a few months to get there), and a few others that drive traffic to some of my other sites, which then also turn a profit. $100 is not too much if you get a quality lens which, a) is already indexed by the major search engines and getting traffic from them, b) is designed to drive traffic to sites where you can convert the traffic into profit (short or long term), and/or c) contains good reviews of products which lead directly to sales pages from which you earn commissions.
The $7-8 that I was talking about is just the money paid directly from Squidoo. But like you pointed out, there are several other ways to monetize a lens.
There are some lens creation services that charge up to $250. The highest confirmed lens sale price that I know of is $400. That was for an established, high ranking lens that was making regular sales and receiving significant traffic.
Ya, I also tried the whole squido thing and I don't think it really did much. But all in all, I suppose every little bit helps.

I have a lens that has an overall rank of 3xx... it jumps from 310 to 330 - depending on the day, there is no way I would ever sell it for 100$... I get at least 300 uniques per day which results in 3-4 affiliate sales per day... and that is over $100 daily
