...to have toncilites(not sure if I'm spelling it right). I have toncilites every time I have a cold but it seems different for other people. Is it normal to have inflamed or sore tonsils a few times a year?

It sounds like you need them removed. If you want to stop the cold ans sore throats in their track, I suggest you use Oregano Oil. I take it whenever I feel like I am getting sick and it kicks it fast. I wrote an article about it, you may find it useful:

    Oil of Oregano: Alternative Medicine.

No scams and not trying to sell you anything. You can buy it at any health food store. I swear by it! :)

Thank you. I heard on TV the other day that the immune system is what causes colds. In your article you say that Oregano oil builds up your immune system, I guess that's what why it helps. But I'm no doctor.

Thanks for sharing the info, I'll pass it on.

Winter's hit and everyone's getting sick haha, so am I.

Also a more commercial product that I also am not selling is cold-eze. You can buy just about everywhere in the US. Suck on one of these at the first sign of a sore throat or that itchy feeling.

Sometimes it is a false alarm but I truely believe I have killed a couple of viruses before they got started using this product.

Yes, it is normally to get a cold a couple times a year -- in fact its healthy for you. I read a few years ago that a study by some physicians found that the flue floods the body with natural antibodies that will attack every disease you have, even arresting cancer. People who have a couple colds a year are simply healthier than those who don't.

My mother had my tonsoles yanked when I was pretty yound, 5 or 6. All I remember about it is the ice cream I got afterwords :)

    No, it's abnormal.

But for the minority of people with a propensity to develop tonsillitis, it's normal.

Throat specialists go through cycles of "believing in removing tonsils" and "believing in conservative treatment rather than surgery". They change their collective mind about this issue once a decade. Whatever was "widely believed 10 years ago", they believe the exact opposite now. And it's always been like that.

    Good luck!

I can deal with a cold and the effects but swollen or sore tonsils I just can't stand. For me the effects of a cold are almost never really bad.

However I think removing the tonsils could have other negative effects. I heard it fights viruses and that type of stuff. My mom said she had her tonsils removed at a young age and it hurt like hell.

On some sites I've read they say that it can take up to two weeks, though mine only lasts like 2-3 days but then I get a runny nose forever.

Yes, I think it can have some future disadvantages, otherwise it would be more widely done and less controversial. But it's possibly better than recurrent tonsillitis and taking antibiotics or penicillin regularly?

I think it's not usually a terrible operation, pretty quick and minor by surgical standards anyway. And people don't stay in hospital very long after it usually.

Good luck to you either way!

    Ok, thanks:)

I think the best thing to do from now on is just to avoid it. Building up the immune system for one.

It was spell like this Toncilitis :) by the way I think it's not normal
to have tonsilitis every time you have cold. I was experiencing
the same thing. And I have colds right now, but I don't have a
sore throat. I'm not a doctor but I can give you suggestion about
what I'm doing when I have sore throat.

You just dissolve salt (the rocky one) into the warm luke of water
in a glass and gurgle it. I do that at night and when I wake up
it's gone though my cold was still there.

This is good advice. Gargling with warm salt water is bad for the bacteria and can possibly even resolve the problem if you start doing it quickly enough. Some people who are prone to recurrent tonsillitis can cut their sore throats short by doing this, and avoid the need for penicillin all the time. The secret is to start doing it really quickly, as soon as your throat feels sore: if you leave it too late, it won't be strong enough to get rid of the infection.

The potential problem with having your tonsils removed is that the tonsils "trap" infection in the back of your throat and so prevent them from getting further into your body. I think people without tonsils have a slightly increased risk of getting lung infections, because the tonsils aren't there any more to trap those bacteria.
