You would probably be fine to start off with a shared hosting plan with someone like hostgator, but if the forum grows you may soon find that you need to upgrade to a VPS or even a dedicated server.

www.hostcrate.com BEST HOSTING FOR ANY SITE. It's cheap and reliable. I'm a customer there and I find it very satisfying.
Enough space for a vBulletin or maybe 10+ vBulletins xD!

You can easily start your forum using shared hosting.

Once you start getting huge no. of visitors daily only then you need to switch to VPS or a Dedicated Server, otherwise not.

you shoudnt reallym do the one click forum installers. since it is better to install them yourself.
    ( you Learn More)
alot of people Movie hosts becuase they cannot find a good host for there site.
so learn about the forum software.
what is the forum going to be about? becuase if its like a dodgy niche then you going to need to get a host in a specific place I.E Netherlands, China, Japan for warez

    do you have money?
alot of people start a forum not noing of what they are getting themselves into.
your forum has to have alot of content and frequent if you want to have regular visitors.
you might want to pay people to post on your forum?
you will need to advertise your forum somehow so it may cost you money?

    Forum Software
If your going to open a forum your going to have to know and understand the forum software you are going to use.
The recommended are Vbulletin, IPB or Mybb
    Vbulletin costs something like $180
IPB does require you to pay i am not sure how much
Mybb is Free. I use this.

If you need to know more about Mybb http://www.mybboard.net then dont hesitate to PM me.

hey ,this is cool info .thanks a lot man i really do appreciate this alot .as per the kind of forum i like to start,it will be a comunity forum where people from my lacal community as well those outside my comunity can post as often as possible to make thier own contribution to the government of the day.The newly elected Governor of my state promises to make his administration very transparent .so i want to kind of put up a forum where people even from the grass root can contribute to the administration of the govt.i also want to be able to display my google ads as you have it on this forum.so ordinarilly there will be ready and willing people to post periodically.so i guess with this short explanation you can get a better picture of what i intend to set up.so in this case how can you help ?pls PM me on this

hmm. you only supplied info about what the forum is going to be about. as i said

are you going to buy VBbulletin? or use a Free one like Mybb?

how are you going to get your community to your forum. (how will you even get them to sign up)

If you want to open a forum. i suggest you choose a Forum software. Then learn about it. use a free host and practice installing the forum.

If you can't even install a forum software, I would highly recommend you not buy a paid forum software.

Forums are very hard to start... you can end up just wasting time/money...
