Create links to your website with article submissions or forum participation

The search engines will then find your site when they crawl the relevant article directory or forum.

    Submit your site to some high PR social bookmarking sites, I suggest. digg.com, stumbleupon.com, slashdot.org, 3technorati.com (PR8) (Only Blogs), furl.net (PR7), backflip.com (PR7), hugg.com (PR7), mixx.com (PR7)

Can anyone explain as to whether there is any effect on the length of the URL for a particular article inside a website. I mean to say that the article may rside inside a sub Category lying inside another category which lies on the home page.

This way the length of URL shall be typically long. Hence whether such longh length has any effect on indexing by Google? or this does not matter?

    Thanks in advance please

You should submit a sitemap to Google Webmaster tools.
